Leaving your display on the instantaneous mpg tends to result in better mpg. At least for me there seems to be a desire to see it go up.

If you guys want better fuel economy, it's pretty simple: buy a Toyota. Otherwise, suck it up since you paid $35k+ for your 1er, you don't get to complain about gas prices

Favorite quote of all time on consumer reports rating the RX-7 (15mpg).

If you heed to the 'shift up' light, you bought the WRONG car!

To me, it sounds like we should just drive more aerodynamic cars. They don't say how many "cents per gallon" equivalence you save by lowering your coefficient of drag by 0.05.

Just don't drive as fast, don't accelerate as hard, and you'll notice savings.

You'll be bored, but you'll get your coveted extra 2-5 MPG.

I just drive well. The 1er gets good gas mileage.

Way out to Ohio 24 MPG at 87 MPH

Way back from Ohio 30 MPG at 72.

Just drive and the thing gets nice mileage.

@ 60-70 mph on flat roads my 1er can get as much as 40-30 mpg. The 1er can get almost as good gas mileage as hondas n stuff with much smaller engines, it all depends weather or not you keep your rpm needle from going over 2,500 - 3k during start ups, and how hard you press on the gas during start ups. If you have a light foot on the peddle, and dont rev over 2,500 you can eaisly get 25 - 30 mpg city as well. Really one of the only reasons the 1er gas guage seems to move a lot at times is simply because of the small gas tank @ 14gal. Thats really my only complaint with the 1er is the small gas tank. would much have liked 16 - 18gal and sacraficed 1 or 2 cubic for the trunk r something. The control over your gas mileage going from a somewhat moderate avg. for very pedal heavy driving around 22 mpg to light pedal driving around 30 mpg is basically " In the palm of your foot. " its up to you how often you fill up, so if you can control the urge to be 10 miles ahead of everyone after a stop light, you should do quite alright..
