Hey guys, I'm going with my buddy tomorrow to check out a 335i at a bmw dealership, and i have a couple of questions. What is the easiest way to make sure that it doesn't have the 29.2 software on it? just ask them to scan it with a code reader and tell me what the software # is? Also, are there any other software revisions to stay away from? Anything else in general to look out for? it's an 07 E92 with a manual tranny, and it has less than 10K miles on it. Thanks for your help guys, it's much appreciated!

Why are you so concerned with the software revision on the car...........the last few current revisions have ironed out any lag /wastegate issues from the previous problematic ones. Just make sure they give you a deal on updating it to make it current.

cool, thanks guys. also, as far as the fuel pump failures go, have any conclusions been drawn as to what is causing their failures? I heard some speculation a few months ago that it was attributed to the ethanol thats being mixed in to the gas these days. How long do you typically have from when it starts to fail, to when the car is no longer drivable? is it usually asymptomatic right up until it fails, and then your screwed and stranded?

The only conclusion is that it's not if it fails. It's when it will fail.
Some have been lucky. Most have not.
It usually starts with a long start or stumbling idle.
I'm sure BMW has way too many of these to make a better one so that's why they increased the warranty with those to 100k miles.

Also remember that if your pump fails, BMW in the past has pointed fingers at what type of gas you run, so just stick with top tier stations i.e Shell, Chevron to be safe...

and how quick are they to be dicks and blame it on aftermarket upgrades? I understand if i go in with a piggy back or down pipes that's one thing, but what about the simple stuff like an open element filter, or exhaust? does all that have to come off for each claim?

intake and exhaust can stay...piggy and DP...i'd say no way.

And I'm on the first fuel pump. You may see a lot of people on here with (multiple) failures, but this community represents a small % of the overall 335 population (and one that likes to up the performance of our cars...)

...i would stay away...i am sure the manufacturing date is 2006 - March predated.

Compare pricing of the 2009 model with the 2007 and look into the various financing options and if you want to own the car for 3 years or 5 years or for ever...just my cents worth...

But looking for a 335 is a great option and i share your excitement
