nope but I prefer to clean my break dust than crash at 100+ mph and have someone pick up what is left of my car and clean my blood of the steet

easier solution clean your wheels with F21 wheel cleaner from TurtleWax is the best and it repels brake dust

calvin, how does DSC/DTC prevent you from crashing at 100+mph?

anyway, DSC/DTC uses your brakes, so it'd make sense if you find less brake dust after turning DSC/DTC off.

You mean, DTC off? I hate when people get this confused. From startup, DSC and DTC are ON. When you tap the button, DTC turns off. If you press and hold, both DTC and DSC are off. Why is this so difficult?

no joe bimmer, DSC & DTC is the first, default mode. DTC only is the mode that turns on when you push the button once. Then holding turns it all off like you said. Dont get mad cause you're the confused one. I know you dont believe me so just go read the manual... page 79 under 'controls'

there was a thread that cleared my mind about this. from what i understand now this is how it goes:

DSC is on when you start up the car.

DTC is turned on when you press the button once. its weird how BMW set it up.

DTC is another mode at which DSC gives you a higher treshold meaning it lets your tire spin. most people would put it as disabling half of DSC which gets confusing because what DTC really does is raise the treshold of DSC. making DSC kick in later than normal. so DTC lets you compromise without fully disabling DSC and gives you more headroom for control.

when i first got my car my dealer told me that i could turn "ON" DTC if its raining but it could wear my tire out faster. i thought he didnt know what he was talking about until i read about the threshold explanation.

if im really wrong ill gladly accept corrections.

I think you might be wrong on that one.

DTC is on ONLY when you press the DTC button once. If you press and hold the DTC button for 3 sec, both DTC and DSC are deactivated.

When I press the DTC button, iDrive said: " DTC activated, DSC limited!" - that means that DTC is activated ONLY when you press the DTC button once.

-.-;

I didnt wanna do this but heres the quote from the manual.

DTC Dynamic Traction Control
DTC is a version of DSC in which the drive output
is optimized for particular road conditions,
e.g. unplowed snow-covered roads. The system
assures the maximal drive output, but with
reduced driving stability. It is therefore necessary
to drive with appropriate caution.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC
under the following special circumstances:
> When driving uphill on snow-covered roads,
in slush or on unplowed, snow-covered
roads
> When rocking a stuck vehicle free or starting
off in deep snow or on loose ground
> When driving with snow chains

Activating DTC
Briefly press the button; the DTC indicator
lamps in the instrument cluster come on.

Deactivating DTC again
Press the button again; the DTC indicator
lamps in the instrument cluster go out.

Deactivating DTC and DSC together
Press the button and hold it down for at least
3 seconds; the DSC indicator lamps in the
instrument cluster light up. Stabilizing and
drive-output promoting actions are no longer
executed.

Now can we please never mention this again?

Just put on those brake shields if you wanna have less brake dust...

But don't come running to me if your brakes over heat and rotors warp and have significant brake fade...

Exactly... to a point though. If you slide the back end out it will straighten it out again.

Honestly this should be stickied. It's something that 9/10 people don't get (myself included) when they buy the car unless they've either read the owner's manual or read it on this forum. As soon as the threads drop off the main page another is made.... it's like a vicious circle.

yeah there should be a sticky on this one. even after i read the manual i didnt get it and i just believed what i wanted to believe of DTC. cause i was telling myself that BMW was wrong in their manual. (what an arrogance) lol.

i even thought that my dealer didnt know what he was talking about.

How about this, experts explain it this way

Most Control/Car Intevention: DSC "On or Off" / DTC "On or Off"
Less (or middle ground): DSC "On or Off" / DTC "On or Off"
Least Car Intervention: DSC "On or Off" / DTC "On or Off"

???? does that make sense, i dont know the answers i am just trying to figure out a way to explain this clearly
