V1 Hardwire - DFW

Props to Cody at Totally Mobile who came to my office yesterday and hardwired my V1 directly into the fuse box. He did a great job and did it in about 30 minutes. Cody was referred to my by my service advisor at Classic BMW.

I would recommend him to those of us in the DFW area.

Cheers,

Whats the purpose of wiring it into the fuse box? Why not just alligator clip it into the light assemble next to the rearview mirror. Takes about 15minutues and anyone can do it. (I haven't done it yet in the M3 but did it in my '01 325)

The reason for wiring it to the fuse box, which is about as easy as splicing into the map lights, is that it's a cleaner install (separate applications are being powered separately) and is completely reversible. Even with the T-clip, removing it leaves an uninsulated spot on the host wire.

Practically speaking, it's not a big deal which way you do it in this case, but out of habit, 99% of professionals who know what they're doing will power aftermarket applications directly from a fuse box because piggy-backing often results in problems.
