Goodbye Runflats -- Goodyear F1s or Pirelli PNero Zero?
Hi Guys -
So I'm gearing up on replacing the Runflats, too harsh for me. I'm beginning to really dread my daily commute. I spent alot of time reading about the Goodyear DS3 F1s (pardon me if I got the name wrong) and up until recently was set on getting those. I know they will be very close in performance to the RFTs (given that they're a Max performance summer tire). I've also recently been looking at the All-Season Pirelli PZero Nero (excuse me again with the nomenclature) and am considering going for these now. I live in the Bay Area and so don't really need the all-season capabilities, but I'm tempted by a quieter and potentially softer ride and a savings of about $150-$200. What do you guys think? Anyone driven on both? My previous '03 E46 with sport pkg had the 17inch all seasons and I drove that car very aggressively and never once felt like it lacked grip. BTW, my E90 is a 330i with sport pkg and 162s. Appreciate everyone's help!

The F1's are fine at first and then they get noisy as they wear down in tread. If you can, get the Mich PS2's for just over 1K. I did extensive research too and the Mich are a better choice atleast for me.

I have had the all season pirelli's before. They are an amazing tire. They have 99% of the traction of a summer performance tire, and do really well in snow (as I have had to use it before).
I would suggest that you get the Pirelli's if you need year round tires. They are spectacular!!! |

F1s
My friend had PS2s on his R32 The sidewall on those things are SO soft that they seperated from the rim leaving him with a broken back Tee orginal PS were MUCH better than the PS2 Goodyear all the way |

Sorry to hear about your friend. Hope he's better.
I really like the PS2, I used to have the old PS on my car before. What is an R32? VW? Quote:

For those of you guys who've used the Goodyear's, any issues with noise as they wear down? I've read a couple of threads about this. Also, alot ppl's reviews of tires tend to be of a new non-RF set with only a few hundred or so miles vs. their old RFTs with several thousand miles. Do the positive attributes of good handling, better ride, less tramlining etc. hold up after several thousand miles on the non-RF sets? That's another thing I'm curious about. Thanks again, everyone, for your comments.

I have had more miles on the Pirelli's than I have had all together on OEM RF's. I racked up about 10k miles on those Pirelli tires and they were amazing... |

... and have you specifically driven your E90 on the Pirelli tires the OP was asking? I think you might change your opinion if that was the case... Pirelli may have treated you differently in the past with another vehicle and another tire. But these tires are pretty darn good... |

2 bad sets of rubber is enough to discourage me, especially when I haven't run across a bad michelin, bridgestone, or yokohama yet. pirelli 0/2 were good (euphoria, p400) michelin 2/2 were good (both PS2's) bridgestone 3/3 were good (s-03, re50) yoko's 4/4 were good (a509, avs intermediate) |

Just put some Pirellis Pzero all-season on my E92 yesterday. Very nice, both in the rain and on dry roads. So much better than the stock RFTs of the ZSP. I'm sure the Washington fall and winter won't feel like a slipping and sliding experience now.

I've got 15K on My F1 GSD3's, love 'em, awesome grip wet or dry. No noise, and treadwear is a non-issue so far. I have 19", 235 front / 265 rear, if that helps.

P Zero Nero (non M+S) = worst tire I've ever had on my M3 (in 9 years). Freeway driving during the first 3K miles was an unpredictable adventure - the tires were so squirrely they followed every groove in the pavement, boardering on dangerous. Grip was so-so.
PS2 = By far the best tire I've had. Worth every dime. |
