reserved for service...
Okay... I got a couple a cracks on my windshield now and it has to be replaced. I wanted to do it the easy and cheap way but SINCE it was the windshield(probably the most important part while driving fast), I wanted the dealer to handle it. The cost for windshield replacement(w/rain sensor) will be about $1400 including tax+labor. I know it is not the best deal I can have for replacing windshield, but I know it is the safest way to replace it. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also there will be recalls (program updates and oil change, etc) since the car will be in for couple a days I asked them to update it. I have reserved a vehicle for a substitute, but I don't know what I'm getting. the date is 23 OCT and I have plenty of time to change my mind. If anyone can persuade me out of this, please do so!!

$360 - OEM Pilkington Windshield $13 - Top gasket $21 - Bottom gasket $160 - Labor ------------------------ $554 - Total Price (Before Tax) Of course, my insurance is paying 100% for the parts plus $148 for the labor and my deductible is $50. You are being raped at $1400, IMHO. |

Why and how are you coming up with $1400 to replace the windshield. Is is bulletproof?

I had mine replaced a few months ago. My insurance company paid for it - I never even saw the price, and don't care. You're insane to pay for it yourself.

but it's kinda complicated that I do not want to bother the insurance company at this time. I know its alot a money, but don't just call me insane; give me some ideas. |

Best bet is to settle it through your insurance company. It's not a bother to them when you make a claim. It's their job. After all, you are paying for it. If you're not constantly claiming damages or involved in at-fault accidents/tickets, your premiums won't go up (ask your insurance company if you are worried about this).
Or if not, how about calling around and getting a quote from other dealers? |

I have replaced mine in my 330 twice once in Seattle and once in LA. It was around $500 both times. The dealership in LA and Seattle both said they get an outside company to do it. So I called around and found a place that would do it with OEM glass and went with them.

Maybe you can try and get a cheap replacement. Try the junk yards for crashed E90's. We know they are out there!

I got my windshield replaced at the dealer with insurance deductible of course. The insurance company estimated the repair would be CAD$1000 but when I went to pick up my car after the repair, they said it's more than CAD$1000 for the work that was done. Though I never knew what that actual cost to replace was.
