More reason why ~15,000 mile interval oil changes are fine with today's synthetics, and that BMW engineers aren't a bunch of morons?

So then what would you recommend? If someone was going to Walmart to get oil, what would you recommend them to get?

What kind of oil to buy at Walmart? Oil for the lawnmower.

It is well known that the pressure from Walmart on their suppliers to cut costs is relentless. So I wonder if the rumored changes to Mobil 1 5W-30 are both true and a result of Exxon's large sales volume with Walmart. In any case the standard Mobil 1 5W-30 does not appear to be what it used to be.

As for the study that started this thread, it would be a serious mistake to overlook the effects of their oil filter changes and their frequent oil top offs. The regular addition of modest amounts of new oil will drastically improve the oil's chemistry over the life of a long oil change interval.
