N52 PowerBox Final Map Configuration

Hey guys..

Now that we are finally shipping the new tune, I have had a lot of questions about the maps it comes pre-loaded with. Well here is the official map guide

Map Guide for PBX

Map 0: --Disables PBX, all signals pass through
Map 1: --30% throttle remapping, performance tuning on
Map 2: --60% throttle remapping, performance tuning on
Map 3: --100% throttle remapping, performance tuning on
Map 4: --30% throttle remapping, performance tuning off
Map 5: --60% throttle remapping, performance tuning off
Map 6: --100% throttle remapping, performance tuning off
Map 7: -- Throttle remapping disabled, performance tuning on

Can't wait to see if your impressions parallel mine, and I'm eager to hear how it works with the intake, as that is on my "maybe" list. Cheers!

+1

Stupid question but why would you want performance tuning off? Map 4, for example. When would you want to use tuning off with only 30% throttle remap? Can you actually feel a difference from stock in real world driving with Map 4? Sorry for being clueless.

Thanks!

It's kind of like a... Revolutionary new "Welcome" mat which claims to allow you to position it 8 different ways! Maybe so, but almost everyone will position it with the word "Welcome" facing up and directed at the people coming straight toward the door, since no other way makes any sense. Make any sense???

So, just use map #3...

After 2 days driving around on the wet road with the BMS PowerBox Map 3 configuration. I found my 1st gear is quite useless coz it keeps losing grip above 3k rpm =). Therefore the other maps setting are available

so Yuzi, real driving, how do you rate the improvement, what's the biggest benefit?

How are the other gears in Map 3? Thinking of trying Map 2 next?

The biggest benefit is ofcoz the increased throttle sensitivity, horsepower and torque. Some people may find Map 3 is too aggressive to control in real driving because of the throttle sensitivity vs performance. Now you have the option to switch to your favorite Map to suit your driving habit. One other thing is the Injen intake is really kicking in higher rpm range compared to before the chip. I can hear it sucking air in with windows closed which I could barely hear that before the chip. I'm not talking about the "Vooorm" sound I talking about the "shiiiiii" sound. My buddy drives a stock 335i MT and I let him drive it for an hour. He said "If I knew a chipped 128i with an intake can go that fast and fun I rather take the 128i at the first place..."

I'm not exaggerating but in fact the car is faster. It's not fast like a bolt on turbo or 135i. It's fast like a faster stock 128i with 20hp more. Like I said it feels like a 129i if it existed. It will not hurt to add a few extra horses and torque anyway...you will only appreciate more the simpleness and beauty of a N/A inline 6 engine.

Yep, good to hear, waiting is painful at this stage.

Will be interested to see how the 125i performs with the BMS box, between the 2 of us (1 with injen and 1 without) and an iphone with the Dynolicious app, we should be able to give a fairly good review on the improvements. Makes it easy that you can turn the chip on and off too

Now that it arrived, make sure to post up a review from the land down under once you had a chance to drive it for a few days

Have installed the BMS box this afternoon. Went for a quick test drive, immediately noticeable is the throttle sensitivity. Will need more time to comment on performance improvement.

Only thing i noticed on the install which i would say needs a change is one of the wires is stated as being "white" when it's white with yellow stripe, not a huge deal as it also lists the port number on the connector thingy, but every other cable's noted correctly apart from this one, so was a little concerned initially.. car runs though - will check later and advise which wire it was (might be that the Aussie version has a slightly different wiring, our ECU is on the right side of the car when looking into the engine bay from the front - instead of left side like US?)

Would be good if somehow the car could show what map it's on, like show as the CD track no. or something.. hard to be 100% sure of the map being on correctly. Anyway stoked!

What are the acceleration gains (0-60)?
hp / tq gains?
What is the best mapping for "driveable" acceleration?
How do you switch it off?

Excuse the ignorance...

Just to add the hp/tq gains are about 8-10 hp/tq, as the other questions were answered in the post above.
