After Rain?

It rained a bit overnight here at New Jersey. I have some water on my E90. I don't want to wash the car because I got it 2 days ago and it is still clean. What's the best way to wipe off the rain water? What kind of cloth I should use?

I don't want to fully was the car because I havent bought Zaino yet and I also don't have the proper materials.

Could I just wipe down the water with bounty towel or a old cotton shirt? The car is pretty clean besides all the rain water..

well i would not! Mine had the same thing and I just cleaned it with soap and water in about 15min. The sun is not really out yet so you can do the whole car in one shot, rinse, and dry. 25 min top.

If you dont want to do that just rinse it welll with a lot of water pressure to get all the dirt off and then dry, make sure to keep using a clean part of the towel.

After rain, i would not risk just taking an old cotton towel and wipe down the car. There are micro dust particles all over the car surface. if you just wipe it down, you will develop micro scratch marks in the long run. I agreed with Scottz, give it a quick wash then dry it off. or wait until your next wash and risk water spot (don't wait too long then the water spots will be tough to remove). That is from my experience.

The best thing to do is to blow it off with a blower. Or else you will create scratches on your finish.

Drive it really fast once the rain stops. Wait, if you don't have Zaino or some other beading medium, never mind.

Oz, if you have not already done so, I would use some kind of wax while waiting for your Zaino. I have am using over-the-shelf products and my car looks really good. you do not need a lot of fancy materials. For now you can wash with a wool or microfiber mit and a car shampoo (Meguiars gold works well) and use a cleaner wax or polish after drying. I have use meguiar' gold class wax but I hear their NXT is very good. I recently used Mothers Reflections wax and found it to be outstanding! VERY easy to use and excellent shine, Some people like Mother's FX better for light cars and some even compare the shine to Zaino (but does not last as long). All these can be found at an auto supply and are not very costly.
Oh, and back to the rain question, after you have waxed it, you can just rinse the car with the hose after it rains until the next wash.

hey guys i know this thread is totally old but i have the same question

i parked my car into my garage after it rained and im debating to wipe it down or not? since i read on here i SHOULDNT wipe it down.. do i just wait until tomorrow morning and go out to wash it? the thing is.. it might be raining for the next several days -- so isnt that a waste of time for me to wash it--dry it-- and then have it rain all over again??

also.. if i want to wax my car after the wash so next time it rains, i can juse rinse it with a hose... how long do i have to wait after i get my car? if the car is only a fwe weeks old, is it bad to wax it?

thnxx guys

Wiping a dirty car down is like running sandpaper over it.... it WILL scratch the paint. If you really want to get the water off in the garage, get a $25 leave blower and just blow it off. Then you a QD spray.

Almost all dealers will put a coat of wax on the car before you pick it up (not sure what kind). I got the car home, and the next day stripped that wax/clayed/polished/3 coats of zaino on it. So the short answer is NO it is not bad to wax it as soon as you get it home (also it allows you to bond with your new baby)..

In order of lazyness

1. Go get your leaf blower and blow the water all!. Great trick I do it all the time. Car gets covered in salt or the other day I think i got out of work and there was like 15 bird shits on my car. Hosed it down and blew the water off. NO TOWELS, MF OR ANYTHING ON A DIRTY CAR! I dont care if you think its clean!

2. Poorboys spray and wipe or similar product (there arent many out there). Use with a good mf. I would blow some of the water off first or take it a for a quick drive to get some of it off. I dont want to dilute the product!

3. Protectall Quick and easy wash!!!!!!! A Wash mitt and 3 gallons of water and you got a clean car!!! Does not require a hose.

4. Wash itttttttttttttt!!
