Ex 545, Now 335d - is there a new F10 535d?
Hi Everyone
1st post on this board (and i cant edit the subject ment 545) I had a 545i which I loved, went to the 335d for a bunch of good reasons and its really delivered. However I have been watching the F10 like a hawk (already planning my next car as you do) and I can't seem to find the 535d in all the specs? Sorry didn't search if this has been answered already Cheers Stu Auckland NZ |

I'd really like a 535d xDrive, or whatever the name might be. The f10 atones for sins of the e60, and the 35d engine that is so nice in an X5 would be great in the lighter sedan.
I'd also consider a 30d or even a 23d, if BMW would only bring them to the USA. Our misguided collective memory of what a "diesel car" is like is truly sad! |

I would buy a 535d xDrive immediately if it became available

Initially, I'd have thought 540d as well, but whereas the turbocharged 3.0 petrol 7er is called 740i, the turbocharged 3.0 petrol 5er is called 535i. A tad confusing, so my money is now on 535d, using the same engine as the 740d.

The current E60 535d & E90 335d use an old M57 engine. M57's successor- the N57 in its most powerful version has already been released in the F01 as 740d, so no need to wait for the LCI X5. StewartM: the turbocharged 3.0 petrol in F01 740i is not the same as 3.0 petrol in the E60 535i. Although both are N54 twin turbo engines, the one found in the F01 is more powerful- 326 hp vs. 306 hp & 450 Nm vs. 400Nm. Additionally the new F10 535i will use a new single turbo N55 engine (but it will have the same 306 hp & 400 Nm as the N54 it replaces). |

Thanks for the clarification, I guess my point was the engines have similar outputs, though it doesn't change the fact that BMW seem to be introducing unneeded confusion.

I haven’t pursued the topic of tri turbo diesel since then, but if you are correct, I’m very excited. A tri turbo diesel would probably have about 340-350 hp & above 650 Nm. I recently drove back to back a 318d & 330d. If 318d could be described as fast or robust on public roads with 130 km/h speed limit, the 100 hp & 200 Nm difference make a rocket ship out of the 330d. Since a difference between the hypothetical tri turbo diesel & 330d would also be around 100 hp & 200Nm, a 5er with that kind of an engine would be amazing. I’m afraid though that if it indeed goes into production, the tri turbo would be available only in the 7er & the X5/6, just like Audi’s 4.2 liter v8 diesel is available only with the A8 & Q7. |

N54 will co-exist side by side with N55..
Why would BMW introduce brand new 740 with N54 and replace it with N55 right away? They just need to iron out those HPFP N54 issues and keep raising the boost on those. |

Perhaps we are now taking one step closer to a 535d.
I cannot recall seeing a press release, but BMW (GB) have just put a load of new Price Lists effective April 2010 on the website. For the GT there is now a 535d GT listed. It has 299 PS, so I assume it is the updated engine, why it isn't 306 PS I don't know. Makes it more likely there will be a 299 PS 535d maybe later this year. Stewart. |

And now we are definitely taking one step closer to a 535d.
Although the brochures and the BMW-website car-configurator are not updated yet, by now the 535d can be ordered (at least in the Netherlands), as I did yesterday . The pricelist says 220kW and 299PS (but the pricelist of the 5GT with presumably exactly the same engine in the 535d GT says 220 kW and 300PS , and to get even more confused, the formula says Power (HP) = Power (kW) x 1.341, which means 220kW = 295PS ). A technical sheet the dealer gave me, says the 535d: * is 30kg havier than the 530d * is a bi-turbo (but we knew that already) * reaches the 220kW at 4400 rpm (compare 180kW at 4000 rpm for the 530d) * goes to 100 km/h in 5.7 sec * uses 6.1 l/100 km * has a 1150 km action-radius * has a 162 g/Km CO2-emission __________________ 2003 E60 530dA E 2010 F10 535dA HE (coming up) |

As with the E60 7 years ago, with my dealer I was the first to order a 535d, but I am not the first in the Netherlands: see Quote:
