Finally got Intravee installed

Finally got the Intravee + KCA-420i installed. My major hurdle was first figuring out that one needed to remove the OEM iPod adapter, and second, figuring out how exactly to go about doing that.

Several hours of fidgeting and re-configuring wiring harnesses later, I'm back in business and have everything hooked up properly. Now I just need to put the trunk back together, which will hopefully not be as challenging as taking it apart.

Overall, the Intravee is such an improvement over the OEM iPod adatper I'd say it would be worth twice the install time it took me compared to the enjoyment I'll get out of it.

Did you have to remove the dash or just the trunk to install the intravee + KCA-420i?

I removed some of the trunk carpet, and just pull the rest back out of the way. I did have to take the radio out, but that was only because i had the factory ipod adapter which had to be removed to hook the cd changer wires in the trunk back up.

Intravee is "installed" (stuffed) into the cutout behind the storage console. I drilled a hole for the ipod connector where the blank for the factory cd changer would have been. KCA-420i is mounted with zip ties to the brackets for the bluetooth / com modules behind the trunk carpet.

Is the factory ipod adapter standard or did someone put it there for you previously? I am wondering if I need to do the same thing...if it's accessing the trunk...I believe it's not as tedious as having to remove the dash...hence my question...Thanks for answering.

The adapter I removed was a BMW OEM part that had been installed by a dealer before I bought the car. If you have an iPod connector in the glove box and you didn't put it there, this is most likely what you have.

Otherwise all your connections are in the trunk right? You only have to pull all the carpet away and make your connections back there?

I just installed mine too. Only needed in the trunk, I put the ipod cable through the puchout in the center console. I mounted the intravee, 420i and a HD 550 radio module in the trunk, plenty of room behind the seat. I'm really happy with it, using it with the nav screen. I have a 2007 coupe. The istall it really easy, once you get the carpet and other pieces out.

how is your HD550 working out for you with the intravee? How is the sound quality with HD radio with the Z4 sound system? Does the intravee control it so you can have all your presets just like regular radio?

I don't see too much about HD radio on intravee's website...hence my questions.

Thanks

Yes, the intravee can control the HD550, there are 6 presets with multiple channels on most stations. I can't get the steering wheel to change the station, so I use the radio knob to go through the presets on the nav screen. I haven't had much time with it since I still need to try to get it connected to the factory antenna. I found what looks to be a coax cable in the trunk that might work. It looks like it could be for sat or hd radio, I'm not sure. The sound is pretty good on most stations, some better than others. I would say close to CD quality.

So the factory whip antenna is being used as the HD antenna?

No, I used a temporary antenna for my testing. I still need source the right adapter to tap into the factory antenna.
