Lookie what I stumbled upon earlier...

Saw this in the detailing bay at my local stealership today, one of the guys fired it up and revved it a little for me, sounds pretty sick! I got a video that I'll be posting to youtube and linking here when I get home.

I agree with you 100% on how BMW's destroying the //M heritage.

Sadly BMW doesn't really have a choice. They needed something to compete with ML AMG's, Cayennes, etc. The regular X5 just wasn't going to cut it. Rather than adding an entire new sport SUV to the lineup they decided to revamp the X5/6, which is why we now have the X5/6 M's.

BMW's really gotten out of hand with the M marketing (M packages on every model, M SUV's, M badges on X3's, etc.....) It defeats the entire purpose behind an //M. No wonder you guys are debading your shit.

Not worth the Money imho, test drove one and spent a good deal of time in one. But everyone has there taste and idea in a certain car. A fast/ good handling TRUCK it is, but along with certain details it misses wouldnt make me a attractive buyer.

While I generally agree with you, BMW didn't half-ass the X5 and X6 Ms. They go like a bat out of hell, handle better than an M3, and look the part too. Sure it's an SUV (err, SAV), but BMW did it right. They needed something to compete with the AMG Benz and Cayenne Turbo. From the company's perspective, they had no choice.

Honestly, the ZMP packages on non-M cars dilutes the brand and bother me more than these M SAVs. A 335 ZMP is not an M3, and a 550 ZMP is not an M5. This is an M vehicle, purpose built from M. From a mechanical perspective, it shares almost no parts with the 35i and 50i models. It's a huge accomplishment, in its own way.

Agree with you completely, but hasn't BMW had the M-Sport packages for a while? I remember they had the package with the E46 and E39, but I don't remember much before that - was too young (ie. a kid).

I like the fact that they have the package, but I agree they should not have the badges and name. (as in, have the package, so it will add the cosmetic options, but don't have M-badged wheels, door sills, shifter, and steering wheel).
