First ever dyno run w/JB3 1.4(map3), DCI, BOV on 93 octane - e92 335i

Hey folks,

Just did my first ever dyno run on a Dyno Dynamics @ Import Car Center in Grapevine TX.... Not gonna lie - super disappointed!

Car: 07 335i cpe w/58k miles
Mods:
- JB3 1.4 on map3
- ****** BOV
- BMS DCI

Results
Peak HP - 277.1HP
Peak Tq - 282 ftlb

Any ideas on why it's so low?
People say the Dyno Dynamics are refered to as the "Heartbreaker" - but could it be this bad?!!

Well... Thought I would share!

There is something wrong...those are stock numbers, maybe you didn't realize and your on the stock map..

I just started it up, and the jb3 defaults to map 3, so i think im good there. Doing a little googling, it seems to be that the dyno dynamics are super conservative, and that dynojets are typically 10-15% higher on the same vehicle/conditions.

If I take that into consideration, I'm more at: ~ 318.665 HP, which still isn't too impressive

Should have done a run on map 0 and then a run on map 3 to see the comparisons.

The dyno #'s does look like stock.

So you've never map switched your JB3 at all?

You sure you werent on map 0?

I dyno around 320 with your mods. That is a very realistic dyno. A fmic and dp's will really bring out the performance.

Yeah, I was thinking about it, but I wasn't sure about the ECU adaptation and how that would effect the numbers..

I'll probably go back and do a map 0 run to get a baseline. It was pretty expensive tho - $85 for 3 runs i wish i was in cali haha, you guys have it good!

Could be normal, depends what you dyno on map 0, and the DD settings. I've seen plenty of cars dyno 235-240 stock and 275-280 tuned on a DD.

If you start reading some of the posts on here, you can get a pretty good idea on how a tuned car behaves. You don't state what trans you have but you can pretty much expect a 6MT car to have a lot of traction issues in 1st and parts of 2nd (if not all). How does the car run otherwise? I mean, did you have it stock and put the tune on it? Did you notice a difference then?

Yeah, something seems weird. The trusty butt dyno definitely feels a difference post jb3, especially in the 50-90mph pulls.

I have a feeling it might be the settings of the dyno, but that seems kind of like a stretch... I'm actually about to go back to stock to get my 60k service done so I can compare between stock and my current setup.

i would get rid of that BOV and dyno with stock DV's. That same BOV was hurting my cars performance. they are known to leak.
make sure your not on map 0

this is very true. my very first dyno with JB3 and Forge DV wasn't too impressive neither (330whpish on DJ) mainly due to the boost leak from connection between charge pipe and DV. If you have boost leak with BOV, that explains low numbers on dyno. i would get rid of BOV and dyno it again.

As far as choice on Dyno goes, i personally don't care whether it's DJ, DD, or Mustang Dyno as long as you get right amount of gain (delta) out of it.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I called the tech that ran the dyno for me, and he said that they've done a few 335i's and have dynod between 240 (stock) to 370 (dps, exhaust, and an APR tune) on their dyno dynamic...

My guess is with everything back to stock, i'll be dyno'd @ 240ish range...

My next step is to go back to stock and dyno on the same machine to get a baseline. that should give me an idea of what my mods are giving me.

then ill move to meth and DPs!

Those numbers do seem really low so it is very likely that your JB3 was infact at map 0.
Definetly go back to stock and get your car dynoed and do another one with all the modifications back on.

yeah... since i wasnt the one operating the vehicle, the dude could have held down the gas pedal for more than 4 seconds before starting the car - and accidentally setting the jb3 to map0...

probably should have started the car myself to ensure it was on the right map o well... it was my first ever dyno experience so lessons learned i guess.

if you just had JB3, DCI and BOV, it doesn't add up either way. if stock 335i is getting 240ish whp at DD, there is no way you will get 270+whp with DCI with map 0 JB3 because map 0 is valet mode and it means you are getting 30+whp off of DCI and BOV so the gain that you see on your initial dyno does reflect gain from JB3, hence it wasn't set to be map 0. people are referring map 0 because of low numbers you got but i don't think that is the case here. as i mentioned previously, it's most likely the boost leak. if not, it could be wrong calibration of dyno or some error on dyno process...
