K&N Drop in Filter-sound increase?
I've searched the forum for the last hr, but cant seem to find a concrete answer...
I'm thinking about replacing my OEM filter with the K & N drop in. Any gains?..and advantages vs. OEM?.. and most importantly..is there ANY sound difference?..deeper roar on acceleration?...louder idle sound..anything?... any and all input is appreciated! |

I don't have the 335, I have the 325i, but I can say that even with my NA engine, the filter definitely boosted the sound. It sounds really nice at 5k + RPMs. The power is modest for NA, maybe a couple more in the upper range, but nothing terribly noticeable.
I would imagine for a 335 you would see more gains than I. Sound is nice. Not very loud, but its just nice for me. |

i have a drop in and to be honest i don't notice sh!t when it comes to sound...as for hp gains, anything is better flowing than the oem paper air filter. if you really want sound, i would recommend a dci. BMS has theirs for a little over a hundo new or you can find a used one in the classifieds. best of luck with your search for an intake...

I have the K&N drop in filter, and I don't hear any difference in sound... It's neither louder nor softer... If you want a change in sound, get a DCI/CAI, because a drop in filter isn't going to change the sound...

ive got it and to be perfectly honest, i dont notice a difference in sound or performance. but it's nice to know that it flows better than stock. if that makes sense.

I had numerous drop-ins. The best one was the BMS (S&B) one, that provided slightest sound difference in higher RPM with a little sharper throttle. Others... no difference noted over stock.

I have both a DCI and BMS drop-in. The DCI has a great sound and with a tune, it's very audible. I notice no sound change vs stock with the drop-in, with or without a tune. I run the DCI in the winter and in the summer I use the drop in because of heat soaking.

I have a BMC drop-in filter and there is no noticeable sound increase. However, the engine revs more freely.
