AE Exhaust Owners
ok I have researched various posts on this AE exhaust system. I have couple of questions for people that have this installed.
Which system did you buy (Hi-Flow Cats or Catless)? First, how bad is the gas smell with the catless downpipes? Also, someone told me that installing this system with catless downpipes makes it illegal for highway use (True or False)? With the catless system, do you notice black soot? Thanks for the help, just deciding on my next upgrade for exhaust. I was also looking at AA Exhaust system.............

1. Catless
2. No smell, there are cats on my DP's. Unless you are running full catless, all 4 cats removed, you will notice no smell. 3. False, some states are stricter than others (Californina). Just put your catted pipes on when going in for inspection. If you did get pulled over in a strict emmisions state with full catless a law enforcement officer may or may not notice anything. 4. Black spots depends on how rich/lean you are running. You won't notice anything different than stock pipes. AE is a great exhaust!

1) I bought a catless AE system(it only removes the rear pair of cats) there are still a pair of cats on the downpipes that you could do something with.
2) I have hi-flow cats in AR DP's so I don't know 3) Any cat modification for a street car is illegal at the Federal level. I was able to pass my state emissions test with what is on my car (ODBII test). 4) N/A * AE's system bolts right on to the end of the downpipes. The last time I looked at the AA system instructions, you had to cut off the stock exhaust, meaning it is not bolt on. |

If your going completely catless make sure you order an exhaust that has resonators built into the system or you might not like the exhaust note...There will be some rasp in the note at different rpms....With resonated exhaust system it will eliminate it....I just went catless and my exhaust didn't have resonators and it rasps in certain rpms ranges...I have since installed resonators and there is ZERO rasp now!!

I will agree that some systems have rasp, but not AE.

+100. I've had the catless AE exhaust and catless downpipes for a while now with not a hint of rasp.

Im running catless dp's with the catless AE exhaust.>>no drone what so ever and not very loud at all. Very civilized exhaust note during regular driving and a very nice deep growl during wot yet still not too loud. Only prob I have with this exhaust is the black sut that gets all over the rear bumper just above the tips although it washes out. Also, people behind me always complain how bad it smells! I dont smell a thing from inside the car so I dont give a rats ass hehe!

Hmm...based on how well my install went with the resonators for my exhaust systme, no wonder why AE exhaust sounds quiet and no drone for so many members after being totally catless...I think they are the only ones with the resonated tips!

Nick won't say much more than this: " You may ask- Well, without an X pipe don't you need resonators to keep it from rasping? No. We hand build each muffler for the AE Exhaust system specifically for the N54. These mufflers are not used on a single other system because they are specific to the car. This is what we attribute to the sound of the AE system, and lack of any sort of rasp. " |

Eisenmann is very pricey and the exhaust from all the reviews I hear is loud especially if you get the race exhaust...They don't have an application for E93...AE is a nice exhaust system and has one made for the E93 specific....All the positive feedback from this thread and others referring to the AE exhaust, I have heard nothing but positive things....
