Rough Idle at Cold Start...

So, about a month ago i started my car after it was sitting outside in the cold all day and it idled rough as hell. Almost as bad as when my fuel pump went, so i thought it was that. But no CEL (didn't scan though). So, i shut off my car and turned it back on and everything was fine. No problems since then until today when the same thing happened. Any ideas what it could be?

thats normal when it does that just shut it down and start it again, make sure you put high octane gas into your N54 engine

Could be many things. Was it particularly cold those two occasions. Could be a bad plug, bad gas, injectors, coil packs, etc... Until you get a CEL or it gets bad I wouldn't worry to much about it.

It could even just need a software update. My car ran like shit and backfired like crazy on cold starts to the point of almost stalling. Had a software update and the problem went away.

I have been having the same problem the last couple of days. On cold start the car idles rough and almost feel like it is missing when applying light throttle. But as the OP stated it has not thrown a code. I just had the number one injector and plug replaced not too long ago. That did throw a code though.

could be your battery as well, mine was going down and I had the rough idle at cold starts. I suggest you check the batt. voltage before starting the car tomorrow morning.

If you live somewhere with cold temperatures just use Mobil 1 0w-40. Better for cold starts and have a lower operating temperature.

Until I changed plugs, every now and then, I would get a missfire at idle within 1 min of cold start.
None since.

I got my car back today. Number 4 and 6 fuel injectors were leaking causing a missfire. BMW replaced numbers 4, 5, and 6 injectors and plugs. So over the last two months I have had 4 out of 6 injectors and plugs replaced. Anyone else have faulty injectors? Im curious to see if this is a common problem.

Also in case anyone is interested I have the Dinan tune and boths times I took the car in for the injectors, they were covered under warranty with no questions or hassle from the dealership.

Just picked up the car. Here's what the Service Invoice says: 27308 Software level performed vehicle short test, faults stored in DME 29D1, 29CC, 29D0 Misfires, 3100, 30FE Charge in Air Pressure Control. Performed test plan for fault stores found software level in vehicle out of date. Checked vehicle software at e89x-08-03-530....Performed vehicle programming with cas. Initialized FZD, TPMS, IHKA.....Programming Sucessful."

Any of that mean anything to anyone? LOL.

I asked again about Injector issues and they said that it would have thrown a different code.

They tested it this morning and said everything seemed fine.

Thoughts?
