Angry FML Got A Speeding Ticket, Quick Q & Help Please

Short: i got a speeding ticket on the palisades parkway 80mph in a 50mph zone. on the back of the ticket the highest speeding fee is 25-29mph over at $220 and i am 30 mph over. the ticket does say i have to appear in court. any idea how much this will cost me just to pay it? will they just lower it by 1mph and let me pay $220?

Long: i only got 3 speeding tickets since i got my permit at age 16 and its been more then a year and my luck has ran out and i got my 4th one today at age 20 . other then speeding tickets ive never got any other ticket violation tint, parking, etc so my record is very clean. luckily for me all speeding tickets, including this one, are from NJ and since im in NY, points don't carry over so i can partly say fu NJ, can't touch me .

anyhow i got a ticket on the palisades parkway. the cop gave me 80mph in a 50mph zone (30mph over). here is my question, on the back of the ticket the highest fine for speeding is 25-29mph over at $220.

now being the gay cop he is gave me 30 over and there is no price/mph bracket for this as the highest is 25-29mph. so how much will it be? shiet at least give me a 79 instead of 80 to keep me in the bracket...

also he gave me another ticket b/c i didn't have my driver license (being in a rush to go to airport i forgot my wallet at hoime).

not having my license, the cop told me to get out of the car look into his dash camera and repeat my name, address, and birth date. also on both speeding ticket and no license ticket it says i have to appear in court. the cop did tell me when i arrive at court and show them my license, the license ticket will get tossed out. both have the same court time and date. i hope the appear in court is for the license and not the speed ticket?

also i had my v1 and got lasered... maybe i should invest in a laser jammer as well but that is mad dough . does v1 even detect laser or just radar? it should have seen laser when the cop was lasering the cars in front of me no?

thoughts? help much appreciated. thanks.

Well first id say slow down. I'd rather have tint and parking tickets over driving tickets anyday. Second some insurance companys will still see those tickets and charge you accordingly. I myself am a young (24) driver so I've been there. If it wasn't for my military id I would be sol. A. Get yourself a good lawyer because if you excede the 29mph you are looking at expensive fines and possible loss of license. I'm not sure bout the fact your outa state. Good luck at court.

Ps don't blame the cop for your actions 90% of cops are cool.

i would def have the tint, parking, etc over the speeding but im just saying i only got 4 tickets lifetime which isn't that bad at all. awhile back a lawyer said after 13 months the ticket goes away. im pretty sure insurance companies can see the tickets but no physical points carried over and on the record is a major plus imo.

what does sol mean?

nah this cop was 100% pure dick. i respect all cops when they come to my window answer them calm, honesly, and polite. this guy from the start was giving me mad attitude told me "i don't want to hear it" when i first rolled down window and opened my mouth. after that i lost all respect for the guy and was basically like f it just give me my shit and let me go to airport.

And to OP go to court. Trust me.

I was recently at Egg harbor court for going 89mph on 65mph and got unsafe driving zero points. $106 dollar cost and $33 court cost and $250 in surcharges.I think alot better than 4~5 points.
And a week or two later i was at Linden court for going 24 over limit and they lowered it to 14 over limit which was 2 points against the 4 and alot cheaper. I been to court many times and almost everytime i came off with lesser points and heavier fines. Sometimes even lesser point+fines. Just sucks to stay in court for few hrs.
So if you have time i suggest going to court.

SHORT:Go to court they will lower it 99%.

dont most of you realize if you still have the unsafe driving ticket on your license, even if it is no points, your insurance company will get wind of it and jack your rates anyway??

Go to court and try and plead it down. You got nabbed right after orangeberg on the PIP?

They are going to F with you, so just go to court and handle it. That place is one big speed trap and they do it on purpose. Theyre will be 20 other people that got nabbed in the same spot when you go to court so they'll probably just press you for cash.

only 4 tickets "lifetime"? Youre only 20yrs old. Granted im only 21 and i have only had 3 im not one to speak however ive paid one and took the point (Nice increase in insurance premium) Therefore the following ticket (Carpool) i ended up paying $340 plus extra $ to do traffic school (No increase with the insurance company) but then my last ticket that was speeding, i couldn't do traffic school so i fought it by trial by declaration. And of course ..i lost, judge right away considered me guilty. So my advice, spend the time in court, they will lower it more than likely...you have to go either way since you'd want to get the license ticket relieved.

Do you want to know what happens when you dont go to court? Most recent 40 history.
Suspended about 11 times so far. LOL
Also this is what happens when you speed often. No speeding tickets after the laser jammer.! (Knock on wood)

HOLY SHIT! your insurance must be through the roof!

OP, go to court or get a lawyer. your over the 29mph speed limit which means you have the potential to lose your license at court. your pretty f'd. id say the no license ticket is the least of your worries. and yes improper driving which is no pts BUT you pay 450 plus fees etc and as Matt stated it still goes on your insurance which will most likely get hiked up now. good luck dude your going to need it.

lol. 'persistent violator'. slow down! good thing you invested in the laser jammer. i should get one as well.

as for op... dan, definitely go to court. if you can, get a lawyer as well. i know most people on the forums will say that it's not needed, but it does make things easier (no waiting in line, better chance of getting a lesser sentence). because you are young with prior moving violations, you will be charged more harshly. yes, you will not get points on your NY license, but your insurance might get a hold of your info and increase your rates.

hope all works out for you.

Every cop I know says if they pull over a motorist who's using a laser/radar detector they're not giving the driver any breaks. The detector is the warning. That's probably why you didn't get written up for 79mph. I haven't used a radar detector in many years, because I found that it just gave me a false sense of security anyway. I've found that the best detector against speed traps is a good scanning technique with my eyeballs. Just my $0.02...

The V1 is exactly what it is... a laser/radar detector. It detects signals, but does nothing about them. They are a warning system. With radar, the range is very long, so you have the chance of slowing down before an officer sees you. A laser is short range and the signal is instantaneous. Your detector will pick up a laser which will signal that you're fucked.

honestly, radars are hardly being used anymore. LE is using lasers now, so your detectors are pretty much useless. get a laser jammer to protect yourself (and most importantly, use it wisely).

Go to court! Since you have previous records of speeding my advise is to hire a good lawyer to help you reduce the points.
Cops usually dont give people respect when they are going over 30 a more miles over the speed limit. You cant really blame them - i had it worst when it was 94 on a 55 and it started to rain right when he pulled me over FML.
As state above - the V1 is just a tool to detect radar/laser. Its not a guarantee speeding ticket repellent. Invest in a jammer if anything.
Good luck with everything

You're definitely not getting a break if the cop sees a radar detector, that's why I have my V1 mounted out of view and the concealed display in a spot virtually impossible to see from the outside of my car.

dude you have to have some kindof malfunction on in your head. (and im not trying to be rude) but how in the hell can you say the cop is gay because he is saving your life. public roads are not your race track. and it seem that you think they are if you have 4 tickets. i say you need to get your shit together and grow up a little more.

HA!! What is that, a joke?? You know damn well that your eyeballs won't save you from coming around a blind corner with a cop sitting beneath an underpass. My V1 however lets me know a 1/2mile in advance.

False sense of security? Using your eyeballs+detector DOUBLES your awareness.

Radar or lasers can't see around "blind corners" or through underpasses either. A good visual scan is quite effective against speed traps unless you have poor eyesight or are routinely distracted behind the wheel.
