they also broke down a lot and were unsafe.

This new 5 has tons of character!

You having a laugh. Old BMW's can be more reliable then new ones.

no, i'm serious, i really do think newer BMWs are better and safer. And E60 has tons of character, but i like it, it's a car that still looks modern when it's being replaced by this flacid looking example that's got a bit of too much AUDI-cool about it. E28 was a rust bucket, E34 was good though, but E39 drove well but damn it was an unreliable car once things started going bad. E60 i think is pretty solid! E36 had very poor cooling system, bad crash rating, dont get me started on RSM (and on subframe mounts on E46), and the interior was pure plasticky garbage. I'm sorry, but I'm way over the nastalgia about the old school BMWs of 90s and late 80s. I do like the E9 and the 635 and the M versions of all of those cars I mentioned but I think E60 and E90 have moved the game on and i like them a lot. They are very cool looking cars that are still ahead of the game in terms of drive, tech and looks. Oh, and the E85 Z4 has ton of character as well, and it's also a new bmw. IMHO.

Well, by character I meant not not just design/looks, but more so the fact that back then there weren't any computer chips controlling everything. Back then, it was pure man and machine. It was more challenging - if you lost control, it was your skill (or lack of) that would get you back in control. If something broke, you could probably fix it yourself. Now, its a bunch of computer chips and technology intervening. Makes things a lot safer, but ehh...
trudat. but when i had switched off traction control on my car and in winter it became a REAL biatch to drive still, so you at least are given a choice.
