Exhaust- Gain in HP or loss?
I have been reading a lot about exhaust systems for the 06 330 (E90 body style) and most of the forms and dyno's show a loss in overall HP once an aftermarket system is set in vs the stock system.
I would think that with releasing a bit of back pressure, HP would go up... but according to these sites maybe its releasing too much? is this true? or does anyone have any helpful hints. I want to gain ho not lose. and dont want to spend a lot of $$$ Looked at the Remus, for the deep note and not obnoxiously loud, good price. but what do yall have in mind? thanks |

well im pretty sure you won't lose any hp with the bmw performance exhaust since i doubt bmw will sell loss of hp products...i am not too sure about other exhausts though.

I think its for both. I read a couple of threads about it but I don't have one myself. Out of the 8 people who installed, only 1 didn't like it, and the other said it was a must have. I am thinking of putting one myself, but I'm waiting till I think my 328i is not fast enough. As of this moment, I'm still satisfied with my baby. But yea, I've heard it really boosted up the 0-60 speed WITHOUT increasing hp or torque. I think you should go for it!

Sprintbooster is not even good. The PBX is basicly a sprintbooster + some other air/fuel mapping. I don't understand how you can doubt it is any good. It's DYNO proven to show 10whp.

Most aftermarket exhausts offer hp gains because they reduce backpressure. Others advertise their product as an aesthetic upgrade that improves sound mostly (see Remus). BMW Performance exhaust claims hp gains of around 5 hp at the wheels and, for the price, is the way to go IMO

I think that a lot of aftermarket systems for our cars cause a significant loss in low end torque. That's just my 2 cents.
I know that my set up definitely caused me to lose low end torque, but I gained some HP, cuz my butt dyno tells me. It's noticeably quicker 90-120 mph, but its noticeably slower 0-60. |
