Bay Area spring install help

Hi everyone,

I just moved up to SF this weekend, and have some springs that I would like to get installed hopefully in time for the meet on Nov. 11. I was wondering if anyone in SF or within the SF proximity might have the tools necessary for me to borrow, since I have nothing with me right now. These would obviously include the spring compressor, jack, jack stand, wrenches, etc...

I'm going to try to do this myself, and if anybody could help me out with the tools, or possibly the install itself, I'll definitely be grateful, and provide beers and lunch/dinner for you!

Thanx!!

First- welcome to the bay area!

I doubt if anyone will have spring compressors on hand. Autozone rents them out for free ($40 deposit but u get it back).

Hopefully SF members will be able to help you out bcus it takes a long, long time to install springs.

if you can't get it at auto zone, most auto stores will do the same thing as bmwe90 has mentioned. that includes kragen and pep boys.

last but not least, welcome to the bay area!

I BOUGHT the same spring compressors that autozone rents for like $50. I've used them many times, so it was worth it to me.

Also... Springs are REALLY not that bad. The rear took me 10-15 minutes per side, on the ground with a jack, the FIRST time I did them.

The fronts are much harder, but still only takes about 1.5 -2 hours per side. Just be careful.

Hi

I know that you are looking for compressors however, since the job is a pain in the ass, I used the following shop who did an excellent job at a really great price:

Roberts Tires & Wheels
(415) 243-9282
986 Harrison St
San Francisco, CA 94107

I lowered a CLK with Eibach springs. I forgot the guys name but they really know what they were doing and I called all the major shops in town.

Best of luck!

Bobby

Like everyone said, go borrow the spring compressors. I have 4 jackstands (you're only gonna need two probably). I have a shitty jack too... but you know you can buy a pair of 2-ton jackstands at Kragen for $15... you really just need to borrow a good floorjack. Mine sucks.

I am willing to help out... but I am all booked up until 2007. Hahahha... yeah.... it looks like it's gonna rain at this weekend's meet, otherwise I'd say let's do a parking-lot install... haha maybe not.

Thanks BobbyP, if all else fails, I'll give them a call and get it done there. I found thru the forum some places to install, but they're all the way in south bay, and didn't really want to drive all the way down there.

I was thinking a parking lot install would've been sweet!! ah wells, my car will be half done for this coming meet then....rear wheels all tucked in, and ridin high like an SUV.
