Hi to everyone

Currently an E60 owner, but after an exhilarating test drive I just had to order a 335i (E92). I've gone for Black Sapphire, Coral Red Dakota and Star-spoke 230 alloys. Should take delivery at the end of this month (can't wait). After three diesels I guess it's going to be a revelation! I've already viewed the site as a guest and I think it makes real sense to be a member (I've already learnt heeps about 3 series).

Hi to everyone

Welcome. My car's due at dealers on 4th Dec. Can't wait, although I'll probably delay registration to 1st Jan.

Just out of interest, did you try the 335d, or did you just fall in love with the 335i? Perhaps you went for the manual gearbox, not available on the diesel? Either way the 335 E92 is a great choice, and let's hope the weather this winter isn't too horrible...

Fingers crossed
Though it must be said, the weather is holding up pretty well this late in the year - in the south east at any rate. Had a couple of days in the first week of November with crystal clear skies over London and some temperatures reaching close to 18C (car thermometer). The chill factor is beginning to settle in, though.

Hi to everyone
Good decision - I ditched my 04 530d in Sept for a 330i msport. The 3 series is a lot more responsive and nimble than the e60.

After a few years of diesel company cars switching to petrol is indeed a revelation. Initially I felt pretty slow as I had clean forgotten about changing gear - the 530d was auto and basically just point and shoot. But when you get it right - petrol is glorious.

Then of course there is the noise.

I tried both...but you're right I don't like auto's. However, I gotta admit new BMW auto is pretty impressive.

I hope you're right about the weather...new cars don't deserve salt and grime!!

Yes....I look forward to the sound of that glorious straight six. Somehow my diesel straight six, although satisfying, doesn't quite do it for me.

It isn't even comparable. The diesel sounds OK - not very diesel-like.

But when you floor it - it just gets a bit louder

Now the 3 litre petrol when has a quiet, but deep rumbling bass when idling - very porsche like.

Then when you hit it it gets a bit louder - but still very restrained. Then when you get to 4000 rpm, when most engines begin to sound laboured, it starts to rasp and snarl surging all the way up to 7000rpm.

The problem is that you then start to try to work our how to be at 4000 rpm every time you accelerate - which doesn't help the economy 24.3 mpg at the last count

I was hoping for rather more than 24mpg....oh well, all life's little luxuries have their price! Gonna be a bit of a shock after 32mpg average in the 525d. But atleast unleaded is cheaper at the pumps!

Unfortunately though - you are going to want super unleaded - the higher RON the better. It does make the engine run quite a bit sweeter.

That means it's going to be the same as (or more) per litre than diesel.

But economy is NOT the point of these cars.

It's not the cost though - its the range that bugs me. I find myself running low and then looking out for a shell garage to get some 99 RON.

What kind of range are you getting on a tankful?

That's the main reason I've gone for a diesel again, but I may be in for a mild disappointment as the E92 has a smaller tank than the E60 ... I just saw 642 when filling up the 530d yesterday - admittedly after a long run, and it's just nicely run in at 31K miles. Not sure I'm ever going to see that kind of figure on the 335d...
