Non-Idrive equipped headunit
This is how the headunit/climate control will look on cars not equipped with Idrive. Nice and simple, with traditional BMW amber colors

Not much difference to me. If I had a preference it would be for the dash without the iDrive. Of course, I don't like the fin or badging either.

I have it like on the picture, don't have I drive
2 hills in front of me remind me of my GF. Would be dangerous driving then To be honest: I find it disgusting how the I drive screen is integrated in the dash. Audi/Merc put it in the centre console, like my former E46. Looks much better IMHO |

Why does everybody hate idrive so much. I think that it's so easy to use. I'm starting to think that people here are just lazy. It works just fine for me!!!

Yeah, same here. No idea why everyone hates the I-Drive. I find it extremely easy on the E60. Mabye everyone is lazy :P. But comon it even has a voice recognition thing that doesnt understand people with asian accents like my dad hahaha.

#1 It's one way BMW attempts to justify the premium we pay for our cars #2 To this day, STILL is no where near as reliable as it should be #3 NAV is STILL 2nd rate when compared to Asian systems. #4 It's not BMW-like. Technology for technology sake is not a good thing. Look at MB. |

I also think in the pictures above its a slightly unfair example because the non-idrive dash is a bog standard plain one, whereas the idrive one has wood/beige, sports wheel etc etc
I have seen the non-drive dash with the wood/beige and it looks excellent. I certainly wouldnt want to spend all that extra just to get the hump, and since idrive is essentially pointless other than that, i would rather get some of the upgraded alloys from the accessories catalog. C |

I think the standard (non-Idrive) dash looks much better. The extra "hump" looks like an afterthought, and I couldn't disagree more that the Idrive picture looks better. The only things that looks better in the Idrive picture to me are the Manual Transmission and Sports steering wheel. (which I have in my non-Idrive car).
I don't hate the Idrive. I just don't see the need for it. I never have time to fiddle with that crap when I am driving. |
