hifi professional system (16 speakers)

I am about to put an order for the car and looking at the list of options to take up.

I wonder if anyone has got the hifi professional system, the one with 600W and 16 speakers setup? How does it sound? Better than L7?

Actually you can go and try it out. I play the same song in the 550i GT with hifi professional system and 535i GT with hifi loudspeaker system respectively to find the difference. In my opinion, it is not worth as I can't hear any big differences. I decided not to take it.

I eat my words. I went to showroom again and played cd instead of mp3 in 550iGT. The music source makes the big difference. I changed my mind and took the option of Hi Fi professional system.

Does any body know if the Hi-Fi Professional option includes the USB input in the glove compartment & hard disk to import music? If not, which option is this?

I was told my audio was hifi professional, but I don't have the USB & import function. I'm wondering if the dealer did not place the order for me. Where can I check what is contained in the hifi professional option? Or does anybody know as a fact that it should have usb?

I think you are getting confused between BMW professional multimedia navigation system (as opposed to Business) and the professional hi-fi logic 7 option. The USB/hardrive function comes with the professional Nav multimedia system,NOT the hi-fi which is basically an upgraded speaker system. What type of NAV do you have installed?

+1. Another thing to mention is that (at least on all other BMWs) the USB plug that comes with the pro navigation is not the same as the USB option you can get separately. The one that comes with nav is solely for copying music into the nav system's hard drive. The other one (6FL) is just for connecting a USB drive/iPod/other device and listening to music off of it. That's how it's been with other Bimmers; I don't think they changed it on the F10.

Hi Fi Professional (Option Code 677) does not include the USB audio interface (Option Code 6FL), which is what you need to connect to an iPOD/MP3 player using the USB interface, so would need to be ordered separately unless it is already a standard fit in HK. It is a standard fit in SG and UK (except for the 520d).

Thanks for the info nfnc, nigelh & bdardashti.

Since I've taken delivery of my vehicle, I guess its too late to add the 6FL option now or is it?

I do have the smartphone integration. Can I attach my iphone and listen to the music on the iphone?

On the E60, when it was first introduced mid-cycle, the 6FL option could not be retrofitted. However, I understand it is now possible to do so but don't quote me on this.

Since the 5GT was designed with the 6FL option at inception, it may be possible to retrofit the option. The parts are easily available, AFAIK, but the actual installation may require some software coding to be done. Best to check with your dealer.

In the worst case, you can still utilise the line in jack (if there is one) and purchase a LOD to 3.5 mm cable to connect to the iPod. This would give you the best sound. Do not use the headphone output on the iPod as the signal has to pass through the headphone volume control and may degrade the sound.

No idea about the smartphone integration. If this is the bluetooth phone interface, this would only be for the telephony function.

I recall my sales person quoted me the USB audit interface for HK$4000 + 1.85% tax. I did not take this option as it is not worth just for allowing to play the music from the USB stick.

The IPOD/IPhone/ITouch port is located in the center arm rest. The IPOD USB connector cable is included as part of the Premium Sound Package.

I just got the Hong Kong f10 order sheet today for Sep 2010+ production and it says the USB Audio interface is standard on all HK models. I hope that is the IPod in the glove box one. Some one was saying its standard on all canada f10s as well.

You can't have smartphone integration (6NF) without 6FL. You have the 6FL option if you really have the smartphone option. That's the way it is in the U.S., I'd imagine it's the same everywhere else because they are mostly the same option.

With 6NF and 6FL you can play songs directly off the iPhone while it is in the cradle.

The USB port in the glove box is NOT the iPod USB port. The port in the glove box is to import music into the Nav system and to store user profiles. The iPod USB port is in the center console. They have separate functionality.

It is not surprising that USB Audio interface comes as standard now to stay competitive. Japanese car like Lexus has brought many optional features as a standard like Navigation system, ipod interface, sunroof etc.

I would think so,as this port accesses the hard drive.I asked my dealership about updating the Nav,and how much it would cost. They had no information on this. However it will inevitably be expensive (captive audience) and take very little time!
