HID Conversion Problems

My 2006 325i came with stock with halogen lights. Recently ive purchased HID’s (lights, ballast and error code eliminator). Now when I turn on the car with or without headlights being turned on I get low beam error on the dash. I also get an another error, but without checking the manual im unsure what it is (red car) I believe its something tothats related to an electrical problem. All of these errors appear when I installed the HID’s so I now its due to that.

Do I have to take to BMW to have them flash the computer? or can I just install a capacitor? If so, is there a thread on DIY?

thank you so much!

Get the Xenon housing and I'll tell you how to fix that error. HIDs in a halogen housing look tacky and blind the hell out of people; that's some shit you'd usually see on a Civic.

I'll help you out a little bit

Hahaha, I remember my Civic has 30K HID's in them. Got "high-beamed" by oncoming traffic every time.

You are not going to get much help here as most people do a complete retrofit.

(Sorry I have no love to individuals who drop plug a HID bulb into a halogen housing and blind everyone else on the road).
I lol'd here.

I don't know why people still mess with the capacitor or resistor/relay setup, when the simplest solution (and cleanest) is a set of Canbus ballasts for you DS1 bulbs.

you should retrofit since it will be easier, but most importantly what brand is your HID kit?

What other mods do you have besides the HID kit?

A capacitor inline would help. No flash needed.. DIY thread

just a fyi..."canbus" ballast has nothing to do with the canbus system. Pure marketing verbiage that manufactures use to make people think that this somehow accomplishes error free through can bus manipulation.

2nd the bulbs on our cars are D1S not DS1 not trying to be a smart ass but rather educate people on the correct type our cars use.

While these "canbus" ballast may produce error free usage they are usually sold at a premium. Rest assure that these ballast are nothing special other than the fact that their circuit design just so happens to operate at a particular parameter that makes them immune to the bmw diagnostic signals that are sent though the power lines to these ballast.

So to answer your question. The reason why people fiddle with the capacitor mod is because you have kits like DDM which can be had for new with a lifetime warranty for 40dollars shipped. Then paired with a capacitor mod which is usually around an additional 20-30 bucks. Together they yield error free usage with just simply an extra step that does not require you to be a rocket scientist to complete.

I know it's a D1S bulb I miss typed it. Second the canbus ballast is completly plug and play and sure a hell don't require you to be a rocket scientist to connect. My original setup was a realy/reistor harness, which sucked compared to the canbus ballast. I prefer a clean, factory like, setup versus running wires all over my engine bay. The realy/resistor option and cap. option are a lot cheaper but the canbus setup looks a lot more OEM.

And BTW the capacitor setup DID NOT work for me. I tried it originally and still had the strobing effect even though the circuit was 100% correct. The relay/resistor setup worked fine but I just didn't feel 100% comfortable in having a pair of resistors under my hood that run hot enough to cook an egg, which is why the canbus ballast seems to be the easiest and cleanest setup.
