Insurance question....

I read that if you replace run flats with normal tyres you can nullify the insurance. Apparently, you're changing the original spec of the vehicle! Is this the case?

Strictly speaking, sitting your backside in the car can nullify the insurance, you're not factory fitted

Jokes aside, it's your call. Just ask different insurance companies and see which ones make an issue of it. If they get technical, ask yourself if that's the sort of company you want to insure your motor with.

Micky why not just tell the insurance company that everything on the car is modified. That way you are covered for anything possible.

If you dont tell them that you have removed runflats. I'm sure they will find out in the event of an accident.

The question i'm going to ask - why do you want to remove them?

There was a lot of discussion on z4um about replacing the RF's with non-RF's and people say the difference can be night and day. With non-RF's the car tends to be less fidgity and doesn't tramline as much as well as having a bit of a softer ride.

I aint going to remove them....but just paid £360 for two tyres and it stung a bit! Normal tyres are considerably cheaper.

Ah I see.

Have you or anyone else you got Costco membership?

As you can get any Michelin tyre very cheap at Costco and its fixed price all year round. When Michelin do promos they also get the promos on top of the cheap prices.

They can usually get you a tyre they havent got quite quick. The only drawback is that its Michelin tyres only.

The situation with insurance is that the customer must disclose anything relevant.

I would say that the choice of tyres is not relevant. You wouldn't tell you insurers if you put pirellis on, but the car came with michelin. I don't think this is any more significant than that.

Fitted mine with non-RFs straight away, I hated the horrible bumpy ride and poor grip. To try and answer your question my insurers said they had no bearing on the policy as people are free to change brands of trye as well as put '50' wheels on in an emergency etc. They did, however, want to charge me extra for my sports suspension and half leather?!!
