What do people think of Omega

I am in the market for a new watch, have had my Rolly for a while and would like a change. I have looked in to Panerai, but to be honest the one I want is too much. As this will essentially be my second watch, I do not really want to pay more than circa £2.5K

That said, I am now considering an Omega, I have looked at the website that Scooba has mentioned and there is some good deals on there and am waiting for a response from the guy.

What is peoples general opinion on Omega, I have always thought they were a slightly 2nd tiered brand. Any views on this.

Don't know about '2nd tier' brand; no matter what you buy there's always something bigger, better & faster if you've got the cash to splash.

I've had the Seamaster Professional (the one from Goldeneye - I had it before that film made it popular though ) and it's been faultless for around 10 years I've owned it (edit - make that 14 years; just worked out how old I am now ).

I think they make nice understated watches that aren't too flashy but flashy enough to be recognised as a 'good watch'.

I have had an Omega Seamaster Professional for 8 or 9 years; it has never missed a beat, it has been as reliable as my Rolex GMT II and is my everyday watch.

I quite fancy a 'Gulf' edition Tag Monaco next, after that I'll be adding an Omega Planet Ocean to my collection.

I personally don't buy watches for willy waving, so I don't care if Omega is seen as a 'tier two' brand - I buy a watch for its looks and performance and in that respect it has been every bit as good as I'd hoped it would be.

I'd love one of those but thought it a little similar to what I'd got to warrant the cash.

If you think the Omega is a 2nd tier read this:

http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Histor...ASA&id=1678023

Not quite sure what the hype of a Rolex is because honestly they do not keep good time.

I agree with the Rolex comment, mine gains 5 mins a month - not what you would expect from a 4K piece

Very impressive knowing the model no. Mine is like that but with a silver bezel as opposed to your blue one. Oh, and mid-size, the large one just looked huge on me (cue Steve A to call me gay )

I have a planet ocean and love it, very understated, even with the orange bezel. Ive just ordered the black bezel as well. I also have a TAG 2000 that is approx 15 years old and that has been faultless.

Omega make some lovely watches. When you compare them as a brand vs Rolex, Patek, JLC etc, yes, you could possibly say "second tier" but then they cost the same.

£2.5k opens up some other brands like Ebel, Breitling, Chopard, possibly an IWC.

Personally, I own a Breitling, an Ebel and a vintage Seamaster, but would love to add a Speedmaster Legend or Planet Ocean to my collection

I've owned my Seamaster (big size auto) for 10 years now and it's been my daily watch and is absolutely excellent. Never been serviced as my AD said if it's not losing or gaining significant time it's not worth it. Mine has been incredibly accurate month on month.

I also bought an Omega Speedmaster X-33 Gen 2 not so long ago and that's been my daily wearer since. Lovely watch that's just a little unusual and bloody expensive for a Quartz watch

I really fancy a Planet Ocean, Speedy Pro or Seamaster chrono next as you can never have too many watches.

I am a fan of Panerai's... Its a rare watch not seen on a lot of wrists! where as omega's breitlings and Rollys are worn by every car salesman out there! No offence intended to anybody!

My daily wearer!

RRP on this model is £4300 i paid £4000 discount on Panerai's is not really heard of, most dealers charge a premium if in stock on certain models mine being one of them. All Panerai's models hold their value well and are one of the most sensible for residual. Power reserve models are a little more but not too much depends on the model. Check this site out www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk

They have one of the best Panerai stocks in the country...They specialise in pre-owned and pre owned unused (ie new never worn) this will give you an indication as to how good the residual values are and prices!

I have a Carrera also...Nice watch, i knocked one of my chrono buttons off by catching it on my desk draw cost £500 to replace as it had to be stripped down and serviced to get to the button! Hence why i wear the Panerai everyday as the crown is protected!!!
