N55 versus N54 Dynos

A few of you were asking for this so I had BMS put a dyno graph together for you guys

Both cars were run in similar conditions and both on Shell 91. Runs were both started around 2000-2200rpm.

Overall power is similar but from what I am told the N55 seems to suffer from a bit more lag. No idea on the potential of the N55 yet as BMS is just beginning the groundwork. There are some more details in my other thread.

there is the question, obviously both of these dyno's are on very restricted motors.

Lets see what the n55 can do properly modd'd before any comparisons can really be made.

my big question, being that its already a single turbo setup, is there room for a larger snail down there now?

This looks good.
The biggest thing I can see helping right away is developing a DP to get rid of that huge cat!

+1 if a bigger turbo can be placed there fairly easily, that could change things..

It would have to be twin-scroll...or not ? I wonder if a classic single turbo can be fitted instead of the twin-scroll ?

No. One single-scroll instead of the stock twin-scroll. It's feasible in theory, the only problem is the mixing of the 2 exhaust paths and the 2 intake paths which somewhat negates the lower lag of the twin-scroll setup. It's kind of like the single-turbo upgrade for the N54 planned by HPF: it mixes the two intake paths, and the two exhaust paths.

of course it will but that is the tradeoff for big power. Have you ever seen a supra dyno graph?

Take these comparison with not being 100% dead on since the N54 dyno was done over a year ago.

Such little differences can be off set easily in diff. temps in the dyno and fan quality.

yes that will be the case, but the upside will be much better top end performance

for example here is a sc61 which is a mid sized journal bearing, not even DBB on a s52 running pump gas. This is a sweet powerband. Put a turbo of this size but with DBB and billet wheel and you'll see a hell of a fun 335 or 135 to drive. Yes you wont have the 2,000rpm performance, but all you need to do is downshift and keep the revs above 3,500rpms and you have a rocket. Much like my car when it runs lol....I have full boost by 3100rpms or so w a gt35r.

as a note, if the rpm pickup was accurate this run was let off a good 1,000rpm before redline where maxHP would have been seen.

There are plenty of larger snails that are twin scroll. Check out the selection over on ATP Turbo: http://www.atpturbo.com/

To help lag you can can go to a ceramic compressor/turbine wheel and a ball bearings.

yup, just trying to show that a larger snail will make that motor come alive if someone sets it up.
