Should I pay MSRP for a demo 335 coupe?
I test drove. I want. Can afford the monthly payments. Demo car has 1190 miles...no other 6-sp manual coupes around for 300 miles. It's almost exactly the car I would get from the factory.
I can have the car by Monday instead of waiting for an order. Pay MSRP? |

Hell No! First off if its like the demo I drove (assuming the salesman dosn't go with you on test drives) That car has been beat on non-stop for every mile. It probably won't affect it but still, to pay MSRP and know that all those different people have driven it, wouldn't sit well with me.

The salesman goes with you, but they encourage fully driving the car. I know a thousand something miles shouldn't really matter.
I offered $1000 invoice, but the manager said no. Going to talk to the salesman again tomorrow, but I don't think they'll budge on the price. I'm going to call another dealer to see if they have any 6-sp coupes and if they will at least negotiate on the price. |

Tell them to sell it to another sucker. I would not pay sticker, especially for a used car.

I took delivery of a 335 coupe yesterday. My CA said that she has problems with the 335 coupe because she has clients coming off of leases wanting a 335 coupe, and she cannot do anything but take their deposits because the dealerships have no orders unspoken for in the near future. That's not good for business as it's like she cannot really service a repeat customer.
I don't know what the real situation is but I've heard some will pay $500 off list for a demo because they want the car so badly. That's never good for a buyer... |

Thanks all. I got caught up and after I drove it...I just wanted it. I talked to another dealer last Friday...and that dealer didn't even have a 335 coupe in the showroom. They have 4 coming, but there are all 328's.
This dealer showed me a list of people waiting for their custom ordered 335, and I think I counted like ~20 people waiting for their cars until Jan or Feb. I went to the dealership just to see the car and maybe drive it...but they offered me the demo car...and it was nice to think I could have the car by tomorrow. Thanks again...you guys are right...two or three months is nothing to wait. IrvRobinson...was that $1500 off of invoice or MSRP? Because $1500 comes out to $29 per month for a 60-month car loan...that's like a lunch or dinner out. Still very tempting. |

Really you have to decide how much you want the car, and when you want the car. I know it seems unreasonable to people to pay MSRP on a "used" car, but it's currently a supply and demand issue. If I was going to Lease a vehicle, I probably wouldn't care too much. The car will be fully covered under warranty, and all service is included. People worry about soft vs hard break in, and if performance will be affected (I think this is a little overtalked about for as little difference in the car performance). If you order one like I did, you will still pay very close to MSRP, but wait 8 weeks +.
The same scenario was available to me. They had a silver 335i coupe with all options I wanted, but it had 1000 miles on it (manager was driving it daily). I wanted Black. I almost went for it, as they were hinting at negotiating. At that time though, they had 3 different 335i coupes on the lot, and demand wasn't as high. Since I ordered mine in October they haven't had but one on the lot, and my salesman says it will go for very close to MSRP with 100 miles on it. Of course, if you're going to buy... Order one. That's my two cents.

If many test drives, I wouldn't buy the car at all. Just me. If driven by an employee then yeah ok but definately not MSRP. Not a brand new car regardless if never titled! Get them way below invoice.

I don't think you'd be able to get new car financing with the number of miles you say this demo has so you per month cost may actually be higher.

I talked to another dealer that has three 335 coupes, but all are automatic, 2 with paddle shifters. He said they sold their demo 6-sp for MSRP at 30 miles on the car. It was an exact copy of the demo car, space grey with red interior.
The second dealer is saying I can get $1450 off invoice if I pre-order and wait...the first dealer says the best I could get would probably be $500 off MSRP. Who is lying? |

Off Invoice? I think you mean MSRP. I would preorder and wait. Waiting does suck though. I've been waiting 6 weeks. UGH!

Waiting is worth it once your car, with ZERO miles and your options, shows up. It was a long wait, yes--but in the end, it was kind of a fun experience. Tracking the building process and the ship coming over the ocean--it was really a fun thing b/c you knew that your baby was getting closer all the time. I would just order one the way you want it and tell them to sell the demo to someone else--I know I would want to be the one putting the first "real" miles on the car......
