Maui Honeymoon

Can any of you guys recommend activities/food etc. to do in Maui?

Im staying at the Sheraton Maui for 14 nights with my new wife! first time to Hawaii and can't wait!

I'm hiring a ford mustang vert for a couple of days to see the island, can any recommend a hire company? or is best to go with one of the big ones like dollar etc... I'm only 23 so have to pay extra for the mustang.

Also where is the best place to go surfing? I'm only a beginner, done it a couple of times in the freezing cold UK water so fancy trying it in Hawaii but don't want to get eaten by a fat shark!

Thanks!

If you rent a convertible, you have to do the drive to Hana. The curving road with it's many waterfalls are amazing. A little past Hana is the seven pools. They're freshwater pools that you can swim in.

Haleakala is amazing, for hiking, viewing sunsets or sunrises. If you hike in the crater, realize it's 10,000 feet up, and you have to dress for cold weather.

Congrats.

BTW, we rented a Chrysler Crossfire convertible. It was amazing on the road to Hana, because the guava trees and the guava fruits were all in season.

I've only been to Maui once in recent memory so I'm no help. But I do know they have an IHOP!

there is a place here that is called "aloha rental car" they are pretty big with the european rental market as they rent vans and wagons for the large crowd of windsurfers that travel from europe. they have reliable(new) cars, most of which were last years rental cars from the big boys(dollar, alamo, enterprise) which usually are no more than a year old. i also believe they cut a break on being under 25 and they have mustang convertables! i know this because they hire me to cut and program the keys for their cars(along with alamo, national, enterprise) so i have an idea where the cars get shuffled. just a thought to look.

as for the road to hana, i'm sure you would enjoy the hikes and scenery! dont rush to hana as you will likely be disappointed as its just a fishing village so make sure you take advantage of going early and stopping pretty much at every spot you see a lot of tourist cars(hike/waterfall).

you are in lahaina, so thats were most of the nightly/tourist stuff is. if you end up going to molokini to snorkel--DO NOT LEAVE FROM LAHAINA! the swells will be slightly higher and the boat will likely be traveling head on with them and you(along with the whole boat) will likely get sick and the day wont be fun. leave from maalea or kihei. they do have lanai snorkel charters that are unbelievable so dont hesitate to call, they leave from lahaina.

pretty much all the nice beaches are on the south and west shores so if you are gonna bask in the sun, thats where you'll be most of the time. :-) your hotel will be able to tell you the good spots. any questions feel free to ask or PM :-)

CONGRATS!

Agree with maui86 about Molokini Crater. I recommend taking the Pride of Maui tour. I've done it many times. Good crew, get to snorkel, snuba, or scuba the crater and usually turtle town, then mai tais and beer, with pupus (burgers, dogs, chicken, pasta salad, etc) on the ride back. Departs around 0800 and returns around 1300ish. They dock at Ma'alaea Harbor like maui86 said.

If you enjoy good food and a nice scenery, definitely do Mama's Fish House (it's as you're heading to Hana) or The Waterfront, at the harbor. Since you'll be there for a decent amount of time, definitely try and squeeze both in.

And for us Oahu residents, as Ricky said, Krispy Kreme is the first stop after we go wheels down!

In Lahaina Town, you get the night life (pointed out my maui86), the shops for keeping the new Mrs. happy, some decent restaurants (I like Cheeseburger in Paradise...sit upstairs by the windows so you can see all the parasailing in your view).

The aquarium is nice as well. That's all I can think of for now. Hope it helps.

No problem. I've taken girlies who didn't like the water all that much, they can sun bathe on deck and booze it up on the ride back; something for everyone.

That's our point about KK...we don't have on Oahu, so anytime we go to Maui, we stop since they're located just outside the airport.

Also recommend talking to a local or get a book about where to go hiking; lots of good hikes with great views.

Forgot Kua'aina burger in Haleiwa Town (North Shore), best burger on the isand...don't go to the one in town. Laniakea Beach is just beyond Haleiwa and there are lots of beached turtles taking in the sun.

If you're planning on doing a luau, I prefer Paradise Cove. Not quite as authentic as Polynesian Cultural Center, but that's an all day event and no booze.

Also hit Kailua Town and Lanikai Beach there...one of the best!

Is paradise cove on Maui? I forgot to say that we are going straight to Maui from San Francisco.

Got to go to a luua! I think i can persuade the new wife to go to the crater if there is alcohol and food available, she will be happy sun bathing.

where's the best place to go surfing on Maui? I'm only a beginner though

Shootz...started mixing my recommendations. Forget everything from Kua'aina burger down, since that's all Oahu. My bad.

I've never surfed Maui so can't help you there.

somewhere on kaanapali beach there is surf lessons(where your hotel is located). you're lucky as the west and south shores(mostly south) have swells during the summer :-). on the south end most tourist go to "cove park" to learn how to surf...another very beginner friendly place to surf.

if you want to see turtles, go to makena landing on the south shore. majority of the time there is a decent amount of turtles swimming around. might get lucky and see eagle rays as well. whenever you decide to go snorkeling on the south side of the island its best between 0600-1000.. after that you risk windy conditions.

luau---i haven't been to one here personally, but the "old lahaina luau" is the one i hear consistently good reviews about.

also try to book the ulalena show...its really good.

again with molokini crater...i had most fun on top of the boat and looking at the scenery(lake-like ocean...glassy smooth and perfect amount of sun). pray someone on the boat gets sick so they throw up in the water in molokini...i say this because the fish LOVE IT! you will be swarmed by fish. i'll usually take one for the team and eat things that upset my stomach on the way out so i throw up in the crater. haha. in a matter of a minute its all gone anyways by the fish.

i honestly can't say i'm blown away by the underwater beauty at molokini, but its a fun day-long event. hell, you might be lucky and see a whale shark! got pictures and all with it...about 25-30ft shark.

in makena at laperouse bay try to go kyaking...go in the morning and you may be greeted by a school of spinner dolphins that love to play/showoff around the kyakers.

thats all i can think of for now.
