Hi all, I'm looking to pick up a 328i in the next couple weeks. White with black interior. No options, just auto. I've seen a few on the CPO model search going for $27,000 and I found one last week going for $26,000.

Is $25,000 fair for what I'm looking for? Can I go lower?

I've seen a base cpo 328ia 2007 for $23,000, so for a 2008 I would think you're in the ballpark.

I'm around DC, but the lowest that I have seen on a base 2009 328 is 27,000. This seems to be the lowest around and they claim they can go no lower. (This is the online price, in stores they are still 30k +... I think 26 is fair 25 may be pushing it, but offer, whats the worst they can say, no?

a = auto? I know it's not official BMW speak, but some of the local dealers stick that on their cars. And I know he was looking '09- just made a typo.

Thanks, I think you may be right. I think towards the end of June I'm going to send out a $25k offer and see who will get closest to it.

BTW, is it true that they can change the interior trim?

As in, they have the right car for me, but it has wood trim, and I want aluminum trim. Can they just pull the wood off and install the aluminum? How much should I expect to pay if they do something like that?

You still haven't provided enough information about the "328i" for anyone to give valid pricing advice. Is the car a Sedan, Wagon, Coupe, or Convertible? Is the seller a BMW dealer, used car dealer, etc.? How many miles are on the car?

Also, in Aaron Robinson’s May 2010 C&D column, he opines about:

“...the unpleasant stereotypes some of us hold dear about Toyota owners: that they’re generally the slowest, most nervous drivers and that they were sent here to act as human restrictor plates on the speed of society’s activity. Toyota has raked in billions from this particular constituency-people who, above all, wish to be anonymous and totally risk-free in a lumpish, soulless transportation device...”

One has to wonder why a Prius owner would make the jump all the way to a BMW 3-Series?

328i white sedan, black interior, aluminum trim, no options, just auto. Most of the 2009s are running around 10k-15k miles. A few at 20K.

Well I'm graduating college, and I think it's time for something nicer. Besides that the Prius is slower than a eroding pebble. I still like it, it's really techy and saves me a little bit on fuel costs. In any case though, it's not a sports car and since I get to spend my own money on a car now, it might as well be everything I want.

get a Galves account, check the trade in whole sale value of the car.
Since this does not look like a CPO, you should be able to get a farily good estimate from Galves as to how much the car is worth and then add a $1000 or so (someone else can perhaps pitch in how much over Galves value is good for a non-CPO). Make an offer to the dealer and see what it comes out to be.

I would recommend looking for a CPO if you are going to keep the car for long, and get something with a lot more options like Sports Package etc. You will enjoy the car a lot more than a barebones. JMO

i didnt want to start a new thread on this but can someone give me some perspective on this car. its a 2009 CPO e92 335i with only 6500 miles on it with navigation, premium package and sports package. the thing is the listing price is 50K... which is the price of a brand new 335i with those options. What would be a fair price for this car? im guessing around 43 but im not too sure if i trust KBB values.

also anyone have the galves values?

I think your $43k estimate is even a little too high.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an established wholesale market value for 2009 335i Coupes yet. However, a similarly-optioned 2009 335i Sedan is:

$30,300
+ $1,500 (estimate) to recondition the vehicle.
+ $2,000 (estimate) for the 6yr/100k mile BMW CPO warranty
+ dealer overhead.
+ dealer profit.
= $ ________

The base price difference between a 2008 E90 and E92 335i is $2,050, so I’d add that amount to the above total to come up with a ball park estimate for a 2009 E92 335i.

Despite what BMW dealers will tell you, these cars have been depreciating very quickly over the first year. My guess is that the wholesale (trade-in) value of a 2009 E92 335i with 6MT, iDrive/Navigation, ZPP-Premium Package, ZSP-Sport Package and 6,500 miles is between $32k and $34k; so a CPO should be retailing for closer to $40k at a BMW dealer and a non-CPO should be retailing for about $38k elsewhere.

I doubt that many BMW dealers would sell that car for anywhere near $40k though, because there are far too many pigeons walking into dealerships who have no idea what used cars are really worth.
