Washer fluid warning?

Hello,

2 weeks ago, I received my 328 coupe.

After few days passed, indicator started to show Washer fluid warning.

First of all, I am so sorry that it is my first car and..do not know anything about cars.

What should I do  ?

Thanks..

Haha, I was going to add put a small amount of anti-freeze in there as it's the winter, or make sure to buy the low-temp stuf. But the OP'er is from LA...

The dealer probably forgot to add fluid, or only put very little. If you have the headlight washers and have been using the washer spray alot while the headlights are on, they guzzle it up at a fairly rapid pace as well.

are you using it alot?....your only other option is that it is leaking, and no one here can help you there....where ever you park your car the most, look and see if there is a puddle under it, if it is leaking take it back to your dealer otherwise you used it up. if you have the cold weather package you also get headlight washer so it goes alot faster too. Hope that clears it up

As others have pointed out there are three possiblities for the cause: A) you used it all up; B) there's a leak; C) the dealer didn't fill it properly (hopefully when they did put the fluid in they opened the cap on the left side of the engine bay and not the cap on the center of the engine itself).

Anyway, you've said you only used it once. Unless that once was for three or four minutes, I'd say that option A can be eliminated. If you have taken the advice from oneshare325 and not found a leak, I'd say that option B can be eliminated as well. That leaves option C and the fluid is actually low and needs to be replenished (that reminds me...I need to do the same but mine is low for reason A).

So, since you state that you don't know anything about cars, here's a couple of suggestions for you. One, read the manual. I'm not saying that with malice, it's just a good source of informatiion about the car and different makes and models of cars have many of the same features but done in different ways. Two, find a knowledgeable friend to teach you about your car. Primarily what you want to do is learn where everything is located under the hood so you don't do what I alluded to in the beginning. On my 330i the washer tube is located on the left side of the engine bay, is white with a black cover. I don't know if it was moved on the 328. The cover has a symbol on it that appears as a windshield with wipers.

For the washer fluid, get either ready mixed or concentrate fluid from the auto parts store. If it is concentrate you will need to read the instructions on the ratio of concentrate to water. If it is possible you will be driving into a colder climate, say to Bishop for skiing, you want to put in a fluid that has an anti-freeze solution. Note, too, that there can be different ratios to protect to different temperature extremes.

Mine was leaking... same as you when I got the car I saw the warning after about a week. It would generally last 1-2 weeks between fills. Some people on the forum speculated that the headlight washers were using litres of washer fluid and this was normal.

Well, it turned out to be a leak in the hose system on the headlight washers. It was fixed under warrenty and now the washer fluid typically lasts a couple of months.

Many others on this forum has similar leaks so keep an eye out for that after you top it up.
