Well, the new M engine is known by the technical people as being a huge leap forward. There were of course the naysayers, that just look at numbers in a magazine article and say its nothing special, not an improvement, blah blah. Well, the proof is in the pudding.

This video is great, because the M5 even waits for the E55 to go first before dropping the hammer Benz is going to have to do something more to keep up, like build a bigger super-charger. or actually build a real engine like the old days.

the next M3 is going to be just as amazing with a V8 based on this M5 V10.

Now I like BMW´s I really do. But wtf are you cheering about? The M5 BARELY CRAWLS away from the E55. IRL you would not put 3 cars between the M5 and the E55 from Hamburg to Basel on the Autobahn.

The difference in speed and acceleration is miniscule. Thery´re both really fast cars no doubt, but the M5 is far from smoking the E55

I agree with Tierfreund.

And I don't like this video, 2 beautiful and fast cars, but it makes no sense imho.

Fun isn't around the corner, fun IS the corner

I agree that these cars aren't supposed to be drag cars but they have the horsepowers to run at the drag strip. Anyways it's just fun to see an ///M beat an AMG If they threw corners into the race it woulda been even less of a race IMO.

Look at the difference of pace at the end of the video, you dont think they would put 3 car lengths of difference between them on a long trip ? watch it again. These cars are moving at speeds above 100mph+, cars dont pull away at rediculous speeds from each other up there, unless you are comparing an M5 to a honda civic.

In the real world, pulling like that from a 469hp car, is pretty damn amazing. And the difference of pace at the end of the video shows just how much more powerful the M5 is and with more room to run the space would grow.

And yea I think we all know fun is in the corner, and even benz people would admit the M5 would hand the E55 its ass in a road race, thats already a given.

but take the video for what it is and have fun with it.

M5

I can't believe that you think that the M5 barely crawls away from the E55. Did you watch the same video? I don't know the torque rating of the new M5 but it obviously greatly surpasses that of the E55.

The M5 has at least one to two car lengths on the E55 in less than ten seconds. In the world of racing, that is known as blowing someone away.

I really like what Benz has done with the E55; however, based on that video the cars are in two different performance classes.

I agree. The M5 was clearly the faster car.
I'd like to see them start from a standstill or lower spped thant 31 mph.

Not to be annoying(but I am ) but the difference is just SO tiny.

Figure this: 2 E46s 330i 5 speed manual, same cars. 100kmh(62mph) to 200kmh(124mph) Difference 2 car lengths! How come?
I shifted @ 6200rpm and my mate shifted at 5700rpm. I was a little faster.

This is an auto box vs SMG, but the differences are 'nothing' , ok in Formula 1 terms the M5 wins hands down, TRUE, but irl: These cars are in the same performance class, because the HP difference is so small(relatively)
