Engine malfunction light (camshaft problem )

I was cruising along at about 80mph when my check engine light comes on (engine malfunction reduce power) . I took car (very slow and carefully) to dealer and the technician stated I had a camshaft problem. Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks 9thwardboi.................

You probably have the famous vanos issue that invovles the camshafts/bearing ledge seal problem. Or just a vanos soloniod. Need to know what codes you have.

Anyone experience this issue on a 328i?

I got this message over a year ago when the engine was idling with the AC on for about 5 - 10 minutes and the "engine malfunction reduce power" warning came up. I turned the engine off and restarted the car and everything has been normal since. I mentioned it to my SA when I took the car in for service and he told me that they didn't find any codes.

Thanks bro, that's what the problem is. Do you know if BMW fixed the problem?

Do you think this will happen again 20,000 miles from now?

Thanks 9thwardboi...............

Yes the fixed it, and I was told they have never seen another one come in for it afterwards. I think the ledges are replaced with a revised part.
