MP3's on the E90
Does the dash unit on a 330 play mp3's? I looked on the website and it said it does, but with the Nav you have to get the CD changer to play MP3 files. Does anyone know? Tech svcs at my dealership did not know.

With the nav you can only play MP3's if you get the 6 disc changer. If you dont get the nav, you can play it in the dash unit. Yes you were correct.

Does anyone know how an iPod works with the Aux in?
The sales rep said you can control the ipod via the radio controls? This didn't seem to make any sense to me but anyone try it with an iPod. Have to decide if I just want to buy an iPod or get the 6 disk changer. |

The MP3 will work in the dash without navi, but if you have navi, you need to have the 6 disk changer to plap MP3's. If you have Navi, you can't play mp3's in the dash even with the six disk changer, only through the changer can you play mp3's.

On cars with the NAV unit you will need the CD changer option to play discs with mp3 files. The NAV head-unit can't play mp3 files directly from the reader in the dashboard, only from the CD changer. So, IF you have the NAV unit AND the CD-Changer, you will be able to play MP3 files, but only if the discs containing the MP3 files are installed in the changer.
On cars with the usual BMW professional Radio/CD player, the head-unit can play mp3 files directly. |

On cars with the NAV. Professional you can play MP3 and also you can use the AUX in ( 1 in in the phone adapter box and 1 ipod in in the glove box) BUT if you got any problem you NEED to update your car software.
I did it here in Munich (under warranty) and everything works,except the dvd player who is not allowed to play dvd's cause of safety regulations of the BMW.With my old 330 I could watch TV but only on "standing" not while driving. They could manipulate the software so we could watch TV also while driving with the E46, I thing the same should be possible with the E90 concerning the DVD movies. |

wow, it might help to look at post dates... when the original thread was posted, nav + mp3 was not working at all in the US... even WITH the changer. it works on all post sep-production cars... with whatever update that was CIP20?

Guys, look how old this thread is. With the initial E90 models, you had to use the CD changer to play MP3 CDs if you had nav. Now you can play them in the dash.

Just remember to burn the cds with ASCII and 32 character length so the entire title will display (if you have navi).

I have an '06 330xi with iDrive and can play MP3 CDs and DVDs...CDs in the cd slot, CDs and DVDs in the nav slot. I have the newest version of progman. v33 I believe. Also FYI, I found this through another member;
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Bla...ef=pd_cp_cps_2 He claims that the unit sounds like cd quality and more importantly you can connect through both the cars bluetooth and the gateway. When you make a call the music fades out and you can use the phone feature. When done, the music fades back in. Ordered mine today and I'll be writing a review very soon. Looks like this is the best option for us iPhone and Blackberry owners. Wireless music and phone...can't beat that. I also like that I can use my iPod to control the music...unlike factory options. |

Well I'm not sure if it worked before or after the update because I just started using the MP3 function. But by update I'm guessing you mean progman? I had v29. Got it updated for free to v33. Long story. BTW I noticed that my MP3s extracted from youtube videos don't work. The screen just says 0:00 for a few seconds then goes to the next song. All my other MP3s work but not the extracted audio from the youtube videos. I also tried converting the MP3's into another format and back...no luck. Anyone know if there is a certain encoding method you need to use?
