How do they come up with those fines? $1068.50 for example?

That's been on going for the last 2 years almost now. And also you get 2 points on your record, along with license suspension, Hospital and morgue program and DUI program. Several of my friends have DUI, and they were $$ since they had to get private attorneys to fight for them against court.

I like DUI=Jail. Thats the way it should be. Get locked up for 6 months and you will see this happen less and less.

You'd be suprised at how many people drive drunk after they leave the club or bar. I try to be the designated driver when I'm with them, but I can not be with them 24/7 and they are responsible for their own actions.
Some even say that they drive better when they're slightly 'buzzed'

All of the above.

A nice family of 5 wiped out today East Coast US. Baby in child seat no secured properly to the rear seat + 2 other kids with no seat belts.

Ever see those morons in their Mini-Vans or SUVs and the kids are standing up in the vehicle... sometimes, he's right there in between the two front seats  ... just waiting for his ticket through the windshield to the pavement. All this time mom or dad is lost on their cell phone

A V1 wouldn't help you with any of the fines listed above. All the listed fines are actually pretty hard to get unless you drive like an idiot imo. I agree the $ amounts are insane though. I actually love it, finally a good reason for people to stop driving like total tools.

Where did you get this info from? I've read it's a minimum of $341 for a carpool violation from CommuteSmart news.

I'm going to take a WAG and say that you can't be on your cellphone while in a construction zone.

I thought they had a handsfree mobile phone law.

I guess someone is worried that careless callers will run over construction workers?

Or detonate explosives

DUI's aren't always given to people who are wasted or drunk. The legal limit is .08 and people can still get DUI's with less than that. I think drinking and driving is dumb but still if you have dinner and have a drink you should still be able to drive home after dinner without the fear of being put in jail.

People have also been given DUI's on bicycles. Hell I got put in jail for walking home drunk. Well I guess it was the drunk tank but whatever.

I think one things that sucks about the laws, is that most bars stay open unitl 2 serving alcohol and then they just kick you out. That makes no sense to me. I think they should just stop serving and allow people to stay.

That carpool thing sucks ass though! a thousand bucks??? I mean I got the picture when they handicapped spots were super expensive, cause they deserve those. But the carpool lane seems to mainly cater to families, and families drive slow. slow=right lane.

Handsfree law doesn't go into effect until July 2008.

Guys, I just looked up the carpool violoation for Orange County (as of Jan 2007):
21655.5 (b) 22 I Improper Use of Preferential Lanes $345.00 0 points
21655.8 (a) 22 I Driving Over Double Lines of Preferential Lanes $345.00 1 point

This is always how I understood it. If you get caught driving in the carpool lane, it's a ticket, but no points. If you cross the double yellow to get into the carpool lane, ticket+points.

Here is blocking an intersection:
22526 (a-,b) 42 I Blocking Intersection (Gridlock) Prohibited–A Stopping
Violation Issued on a Notice to Appear
$172.50 0 Points
Again, 0 points on this one, since your not technically moving. This is basically an expensive parking ticket.

Not sure where the above numbers come from, but I guess they could be valid for some other county.

I like #3, Block intersection - $485

I shake my head each time I'm sitting at the "line" to keep the intersection or lane clear, and the person that is at the opposite stop sign, etc. moves into the intersection because you've given them the room... now they're blocking the intersection, ugh!
