Cool 1M Coupe Front Fender Vents Spotted?

A new type of side vent? I didn't notice anyone point this out, but if you look closely under the cover just behind the front wheel arch, there looks to be some type of new body feature for the 1M. In the video, on the left side, you see that they covered a much larger area vertically than would normally be covered by the typical ///M side vents. Maybe something akin to what the RX-8 has?

BTW, I'm just a lurker here, but I have been following the progress of this new ///M car. While I can't afford the 1M anytime soon, maybe in the future, who knows? I'm not really a big fan of the 1er's overall appearance, but with a turbo engine, LSD, wide fenders, quads, nice 19s with ///M suspension...I can overlook that .

Boy racer it is! This car might have more vents/slits/creases than any other M.

Oh, I also second the hyper white Angel eyes. They are the sex!

I noticed the same thing when I saw the pics. Didn't think anyone else had noticed.

You can see the full outline of the vent even under the black covering. It is rather large.

It could help draw air through the front duct and then out the side vent.

In another pic you can clearly see an intercooler or oil cooler behind the front opening.

Are those M3 brakes? They don't look like the 6-pot 135i calipers.

The rear fender duct is faintly outlined here. It has the same shape and dimensions as the front. I suspect this is another vertically oriented brake duct.

Yeah so apparent now that its pointed out.

I think its more in similarity to the Lancer -> Lancer Evo. Or Lexus IS250 -> ISF. When a car goes widebody they have to pull the fender back into the body where the door is and a vent is an aggressive and possibly functional way to do this.

could be a to catch air while braking for cooling the brakes or engine.

After "feeling" the car on Friday night at O'Fest, the bulge at the top of what is highlighted in the photo is not the top of the vent, but is a bar like the current M3. The vent seems to extend higher by about 1 1/2 to 2 inches on the fender.

I'm going to have to say that's another radiator and not an oil cooler. I bet the oil cooler remains in the passenger wheel well.

Sorry but tbh, that looks like the lower part of the door on the bottom and the side turn signal reflector on the top. Really doubt that whole bit is a fender vent.

Heres part of what you are seeing, the bar running thru the vent.
