Extended Warranty on Dinan-modified E92 ?

I'm nearing 50000 on my 2009 335i, and I'm considering purchasing the extended warranty and/or the maintenance for 2 more years/50,000. Because I have Dinan parts in it, will I still qualify for the extension?

I'm also interested in the answer to this, also which Dinan parts do you have?

No, After puttin Dinan stuff on your car, Dinan reports the VIN # to BMW so the car is flagged and BMW will not give you Extended warranty or will not CPO your car. Trust me, I've searched.

They could make money off of it.

You bought your Dinan mods too late to qualify for CPO according to BMWNA directive. But some dealers will still sell you the CPO anyway.

BTW Dinan stopped reporting VINs to BMW when BMW stopped supporting Dinan. But BMW/Dinan dealers probably still do report it.

I've got Dinan Exhaust, Intake and Stage I Suspension and my dealership sold me a 7yr/100,000 extended warranty from BMWNA with no questions asked. I have since had repairs done under this warranty.

I believe it is a dealership-to dealership issue.

Thanks for the input... I'll shop around the dealers for prices. Yeah, I'm nearing 50,000; it's a result of a 50 mile commute each way to work and resulting in 27,000 miles in one year. I've found a job closer to home so I'm driving much less this year.

As for what I have.... I have Stage 2 software, pedals, exhaust with black tips, and going to get an cool air intake soon.

Should I bring up the Dinan stuff with the dealer?

Yes, the risk of getting nothing for your money is too high if you don't tell them.

I have Stage 2 on my 2007 E92 (26K miles at present), which I bought CPO in January of 2008. I got the Stage 2 in April of this year, and have had warranty work done on the car since then (steering angle sensor replacement). No problems with dealer.

As for BMW "not supporting" Dinan any more - can you clarify that? If that's true, why are we able to buy Dinan software and other components at BMW dealers?

^ Hmmm...very interesting. All of the Houston and Austin-area dealers seem to be ok with Dinan as far as my own personal experience. Can't say for sure about the DFW-area ones as I've not had any interface with them, but I'd say they probably still work with Dinan.

But...all of this ultimately comes down to the dealer and their attitude towards cars with Dinan stuff. I'm really happy with my own dealer and hope they stay tuned in.

I just recently bought a 2007 335i (sport pkg, no oil cooler, CPO) and was looking into upgrades. PPK was cost-prohibitive (for amt of gains IMO) so dealer suggested Dinan Stage 1. I asked if that would have any impact on my remaining orig 4yr/50K or CPO warranties, and they said no impact. Those would remain in effect. The Dinan warranty would be added. Any repair caused by Dinan would be taken care of by that warranty. Specifically asked what if there is disagreement between Dinan and BMW. SA said it could happen, but she has been with this dealer for 10 yrs and has not seen it.

This was all verbal. Have nothing in writing yet. If I was to move fwd with the Dinan I would most likely ask for something in writing to back up the details above. Would also want it in writing that repairs would take place asap and prior to resolution of any disagreements between BMW and Dinan.

Have not decided what to do yet.

I think if you had the Dinan parts installed at the dealership you are trying to get a CPO warranty from, than they should honor it. Otherwise the dealer has no way of knowing what else has been done to the car.

I called that dealer that I had put the software in; and the gal said that they do not offer the extended warranty on Dinan-modified cars. But they do offer the extended maintenance plan for 2 more years or 50000 miles.

I'm gonna shop around see if other dealers do the same.

I think it's the other way round. Individual dealerships can sell Dinan, just like they can sell Porsche. But my understanding is that there is no longer any business relationship between Dinan and BMW. BMW doesn't give Dinan the code or encryption key for the software or any kind of advice. And there is this.

You won't lose it because your car is still under warranty, Dinan has an agreement that if any repairs are related to dinan parts they will pay for the repairs for the first 4/50k warranty, after that your on your own
