so i've been using V-Power from Shell gas for a while now, since i've always thought or felt it gave me more miles for the gallon and more kick.... but just recently i switched to Chevron with thier patented Techron cleaning technology in thier Gas.. since i figured it'll make the engine better? lol
well what type of Gas do you use and why? |

No no-names such as 7/11, Lukoil, etc
Always Sunoco, Exxon/Mobil, or Shell....maybe Gulf or BP. (BP's prices have been a bit high lately though. Maybe because of the oil spill?) I also don't beleive in all those additives either....just gimmicks. You would have seen inflation if they were adding product to fuel. They don't just add products just so customers engines run better...otherwise they would lose money. It's all "false" but legal advertising. |

Shell 91 on the regular. Sometimes Chevron. I used to use Chevron as my primary but the only place around me with 100 octane (damn cali 91 oct!) was Shell, so I switched over. Then that Shell became a 71 so I sometimes get gas from 71.

Shell 93 octane with Chevron being second choice. All major companies put additives/detergents in their gasoline that does clean your fuel system. I don't trust no-name companies' and their additives or lack thereof. Maybe that's silly, but I did take an automotive engineering class in college and do understand the basic differences in fuels.

I use BP or Exxon/Mobil because they are the only name brands available in my community. My concern is that it seems there will not be any ethanol free gas here in the next month.

Shell V-Power or Chevron, but I am with most of the other in not buying generic gas. Any company that refines their own oil is usually a good bet. Places like 7-11, Costco, Sams, etc usually buy their gas at auction and come from different suppliers every time.
Also, I've read that Techtron and whatever else names other companies use are just branded names for additives required by law. The marketing wizards just came up with something fancy and leveraged it to make it sound like you were getting some great bonus. Though its possible that auction gas may not contain the same levels of the additives.

dealer recommended Shell when i had some issues... Shell and BP have the least amount of Ethanol.. And the ethanol has been known to cause problems for BMWs. I had a very long talk with the manager at BMW and he told me that some of the lesser known gas stations have high amounts of ethanol which eat at some of the parts used in the older BMWs (<09). Any little thing helps to keep the finicky 335i in good shape, so I only use these two gas stations... Walmart and Kroger and any little known gas shop is a SERIOUS no no!
