Request: Ambient Lighting Photos

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and I'm just awaiting delivery of my new White F10 520, but have a couple of weeks to mess about with the spec.

Would it be possible for people with the ambient Lighting package to post some photos?

Cheers

Simon

Anything in your brochure? There's a picture in the UK brochure showing the lighting, particularly from the door trims.

Hi Pete, From what I can see theres only the one photo you mention in the UK brochure and it looks like an orange colour light! I think this is one of those things that could be really nice or just plain pointless.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the BMW logos on the door sills light up and that theres lights in the exterior door handles, both of these could be really nice, so was just looking for some photos.

Cheers

Simon

Very nice, but I hope it's only switched on when the car's stationary or that it has a manual override. Not too sure I'd want it on whilst driving on unlit roads - too much of a distraction.

It's DEFINITELY not that bright (i.e. like Cadillac CTS ambient lighting).

I have to turn interior lighting to maximum and then I can still barely see it in my car.

Your comment implies that you have the F10 and that the lighting level is controllable; do you know if it can be switched completely off?

The ambient lighting is controlled by the same dimmer switch that controls the brightness of the dashboard. On the minimum setting, the door strips are basically off.

However, let me just say - its not distracting at all in total darkness on full brightness, it just looks fantastic and creates a wonderful atmosphere - or "ambient"

I was on a flight to the US recently, it was bloody cold on the plane and when I complained to the air hostess, she simply replied "Sir, this is ambient temperature for the cabin".

Cheers for the replies guys.

Are the lights the orange colour as seen in the photos and how well does this work with a black interior?

Do the BMW door sills light up when the doors are open?

Cheers

I have the black door bottoms (like in the link above) and oyster interior. There are light strips in the pockets too but you can't see the light unless there is something light coloured in the pockets of which the red light can reflect. As stated above they're not at all bright, I can't imagine them being a distraction even in total darkness. If anything I would prefer them brighter.

I don't have a BMW logo in my sills. I guess if you have one it should light up.

I've seen it on the 7series and it looks sweet, but never on the fives.

My bad. I have the BMW logo on the sills, it doesn't light up but I think the sills that light up are a dealer installed accessory. Check with your dealer.

If you watch this video from a min in, 1:00 you will see illuminated BMW kick plates.

I am assuming this is a stock 550i they are reviewing.

The UK spec doesn't mention them specifically for the 550i

http://www.bmw.co.uk/images/brochure...Price_List.pdf

Had a quick look on the US site but don't see anything that mentions it.

Hopefully will get my hands on Dad's 530D this coming week will post if his car has the illuminated kick plates, I have not not seen a UK F10 in the dark yet for myself.
