How much gas to leave in tank when away
I'll be travelling for a week (one week too many to not drive my car) Right now my tank is 1/6 full. should I put it to full? or it doesn't matter at all?
Thanks, |

If you are just going to be gone for 1 week. It makes no difference either way. For longer term storage (ie. 3 months or longer) filling the tank helps prevent condensation which can cause rust on tanks and fuel systems.

doesnt matter at all unless you are going to leave the veh parked for extended time. like several months, then there are a number of things you can do. fill fuel tank, use fuel stabilizer, change oil and filter, put veh on a battery tender, over inflate tires to prevent flat spots or even set it up on stands just for a quick incomplete list.

Unless you're leaving it for months and months, it doesn't matter. If you're parking it for an extended period of time, the tank should be completely full.

Mine is sitting idle till the begining of Nov. I topped it off, and made sure the tire pressure was ok. My gf might drive it occasionally. She had to back it out of the garage last week, and I told her to let it run for 20 min the in driveway.
Edit: I almost forgot! I need her to take it to the dealer and get the summer tires off, and put on the all seasons for winter..... so I can drive it when I get back!

Alternatively, if you have no one to drive the car, buy a modern battery charger. Crank up the car after 6 months, let it run for maximum 2 minutes in the drive way and start driving immediately. Easy on the gas, not too many RPMs and after 10 miles of gentle warming up, your baby is ready wake up all horses again. |

Never idle your engines, drive it.... unnecessary long idling from cold starts will carbonize your precious injectors...
