actually they tried to talk me out of it saying it was not necessary but I installed it anyway! I have had two cars stolen. First did not have it and was lost forever second had it and was recovered with the theives still in it moments later !! Anyone that has not had a car stolen will say it is foolish which is true UNTIL you need it there.

yes! i have never had a car stolen but it is just one less thing to worry about now. i'm not sure what they call it but i got the lojack feature where u keep a little key chain thing with you and if your car starts moving without it in the car, then lojack calls you to ask if you are aware or not and if you want them to send the police. this is useful for not just a possible theft but also if your car is being towed. Also most insurance companies give discounts if you have one, took a $100 off for me

i save about 200$ a year on my car insurance so i mainly got it for that.
from previous posts ive seen here, many seem to prefer that their car not get found if it's stolen, so that they can get a new one... so they dont seem to care for the system. |

As others have said, included w/BMW assist. I'm also in the camp that unless it can be recovered within the first few minutes with the bastards still inside, I don't want it back.

for the bmw assist, the car tracking feature only works with newer models. Not sure how new but i know my 06 lacks many of the bmw assist benefits. Also, you need to file a police report before they track the car. So if you have been away for some time and come back to a car thats gone, who knows if it hasnt been chopped up by then. But you should at least, be able to get a discount from your insurance with bmw assist.. so thats a plus.

They tried to sell it to me when I bought my car as they mentioned the BMW assist tracking function can be disabled by thieves. I did check with my insurance company to see if there was any benefit if I added it and my policy would not have changed at all so I didn't bother.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Here's the problem with BMW Assist - It's not fast, and it's not good.
The car's battery must be ON. So as soon as it's disconnected, you're done - it just won't work. It also take quite some time to get through the hoops to activate it. As for LoJack - it's got its own power supply, and will function if the battery is off. It is hidden in over 50 different locations within the car so often cannot be located. After a car is stolen you report it to the police, then report to lojack, they activate the device via satellite, and it can be detected within buildings, under ground, etc - places BMW assist may not work. Is it worth it? For some mild insurance reduction sure... but the only way to truly know is if your car gets stolen. For a lease - no way. If you own the car, I'd get it. |

depends how many years you get it for. last year i got the best boomerang availale for 5 years, cost bout 750 plus tax. the main reason i got it is because i was paying a lot for insurace (about 2k), but with the boomerang i was able to save 350$ and bring it down to 1650$. Ive now switched insurance company (td bank), dont know if they credit as much as my old insurance did, guessing its prob around 200$.

The Early Warning System is a nice feature, but it doesn't always work the way it supposed to. I had it on my TSX, and a few times the battery in the remote was dead. I knew it was dead because I got the call from LoJack when I got to my destination..........couple hours after I started driving. So if my car was really stolen by some professionals, the car could be in pieces by the time I get the call. So now, I only go for the basic LoJack.
