Weird vibrations
Hey Folks,
A strange vibration was brought to my attention today. For some odd reason the floor board on the passenger side of my e92 has a vibration under acceleration. Very strange and very noticible only on that side. Here is a quick summary: 1. Vibration occurs at all speeds above 40km/h while on the gas. 2. Vibration occurs in all gears. 3. If you let off the gas vibration is gone. 4. Does not occur under braking. So far all I can conclude is that something under throtle load above 40km/h is causing the vibration. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance. |

I'm thinking transmission or suspension. Better have it checked. For further insight, have someone drive alongside your car while this is happening looking for visual evidence.

I had a buddy drive my car and I was in another car. Visually you cannot see anything wrong, wheel spins clean, no wobble, no distortion, nothing that would indicate a vibration.

Then I'm thinking transmission or exhaust since you feel it only when accelerating. Maybe a mount or something. What happens if you apply the clutch but keep the revs while this is going on? Does it stop or keep going? Also, is stregth of the vibration constant, or does it vary with something else like road spped, engine speed, etc?

If you apply the clutch and keep the revs up - no vibration Hold the revs and release the clutch - vibration is back The strength is pretty consistat all the way through the rev range & car speed. I called my SA last week to inquire what it could be and they also said it could be a mount. I'm taking it in tomorrow morning, lets see what happens... Thanks for your help, much appreciated. |

I took my in this at the crack of dawn this morning, took the shop foreman for a test drive so he would know what I was talking about.
Just got a call back from my SA saying the car is good, they replaced one of the passenger side tranny mounts. I'm going to pick up the car tonight. Will report back. |

Vibration above 60mph, no vibration when braking. Wheels balanced last week. Are these tranny mounts a difficult DIY? |

I've never gotten to putting them on mostly because the mounts I got felt like they weren't the same firmness or type of rubber...i did look at the ones that EAS sells recently but holding off for now..

Just replaced mine a few minutes ago. Super easy. About a 30 min job. Just need a 13mm socket and wrench. A short 13mm flex wrench was super useful.
I bought mine from amazon.com at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G6J8L4 Torque specs are 19nm for every bolt/nut removed. Slight improvement in vibration. Worth the $30 and 40 mins for the upgrade. |
