just hit a pot hole....now what?
the worst hit ever. my car took it like a champ. i got out and checked all the front rims and tires. all is fine. drove the remainder of the drive fine...just wondering if that pothole did damage to my rims/tire would the damage be present immediately? is it possible for my to keep driving and then 3 days later have my tire sensor to come on like "yeahhh remember that pothole you hit a couple days ago...umm im back"?
am i in the clear?? |

You might be fine. I hit a huge pothole going around 80 on the highway and when I stopped to check on everything, I had a bubble in my front tire. Car drove fine for over a month, but when I took it to the dealer for a HPFP replacement, they informed me the strut and knuckle on that same corner were both bent (and they'd fix it for $1400...). Car has still driven fine since then, but I do plan on fixing it all myself at some point.

The pot could have possible bubbled the tire on the inside or cracked/bent the wheels slightly on the inside. I would remove the wheel/tire to double check.

you could have a hairline crack that will open up eventually then give you a flat (air escapes slowly thru the crack). You may have to take the wheel off or get the car up on a lift then clean the inside rim and check if there is a crack.
The only way to be sure is check the inside vertical outside of your inner rim. Look at the wheel with the crack on page 2 and 3 in my garage). Both my rear wheels cracked (I run 19 inch style 296 wheels with RFT) Good luck

Been there done that, caught a nice pothole on a curve lets just say going bmw speed rather than legal speed, knocked the fob out of ignition stuff flying all over the cabin. Felt a small vibration between 45-80mph pulled the front wheels found a very substantial dent on the inside of the rim. I was really surprised the tire was holding air and how little I actually felt the damage. its only $$

Hit a pothole last night. Hard. Drove home fine; no loss of tire pressure and no sort of shaking. I inspected the tire when I got home but it was dark and couldn't see much; however, when I drove to work this morning, I checked out the tires in the parking garage and found a crack in the sidewalls of both passenger side rfts. Took it to the dealership and had to replace both tires and have the rear passenger wheel straightened. I've had the car two weeks and this was a costly pothole!! At least I didn't have to buy a new wheel!

new tires on one side of the car, hope you were not planning on moving to another brand of rft's, on the other hand you can now replace your tires 2 at time instead of 4 :-)

My BMW dealer service manager said "Guess you are driving your M3 like it should be driven" I simply said "you bet I do"

They moved the two new tires to the front (along with the re-straightened rim). Not what I wanted to be doing after two weeks, but it could have been worst...I could have ended up in the side of the road!

I do agree, however, it all depends how often your horses spin the rear wheels I say

BUT If you take a picture of that pothole and send it in to VA, they will reimburse you at least a pro-rated price. As for my situation, I called the dealer and turns out he never had it looked at, just put air in it. SOOOO I am expecting them to replace this for FREE since they did not do what they were supposed, thus sending me out in dangerous, faulty equipment |

Make sure to check the insides. I just replaced all my tires to find that two rims were bent, one of which was also cracked (developing a leak) which I hadn't caught before, outside looked fine.

OP, if you're still around on this thread, just curious if you have ZSP and what size wheels you're running.
Thanks
