Winter or All Season Tires

Hello all

I picked up the 8x18 BMW ///M replica rims yesterday for use as my winter set (I will post pictures once I mount the wheels on the car).

We don't have much snow here in Southwestern Ontario Canada, when it does snow it might stay a day or two then it is gone.

So the 64K dollar question is shall I get winter tires or a good all season tire?

What do you fellows think?

PS. I do have a second car to drive when we do have snow on the ground it is a AWD and very good on Michelin Winter Tires.

If you bought a separate set of wheels that is only for winter use, to me it would make much more sense to get actual winter tires. Typically people only choose all-season compromise tires if they are using them all year round. Most high performance snow tires like the Dunlop 3D and Blizzak LM60 have a good balance of wet and dry grip/handling while giving much better snow and ice traction.

I find a one winter tire, one summer tire and two all season tires set-up to be the best of all worlds.

Like Gary said, get winter tires since you got a dedicated set up.

okay ... singing Chicago ... Chicago

(must be why some drivers in Chicago are sliding all over the place and follow visitors like me a foot or two behind pushing me to speed on Chicago bad roads).

I'd go with a good all season if it doesn't snow that much.

I find that the Blizzaks become a REAL advantage when the conditions turn to ice. They also have a decent advantage in snow..well, duh! Install dedicated Winter tires if you have dedicated Winter wheels...otherwise what's the point. There is also have an advantage in that they make your Summer tires last longer. ;-)
