Angry Run in with a CRAZY driver

While merging onto I495 from RT50 here in Northern Virginia, I had a run in with an a$$hole. Completely unprovoked this guy in a gold Honda Accord throws a handful of change at my passenger side. I was tryn to figure out if I did something to piss him off, but I couldn't figure it out.

There was two lanes. I was in the lane coming from RT50 and I had to get over left into his lane. He was coming from I495 and got into my lane. I let him over in front of me as I got over left. He began to brake because he was about to take the exit. He then threw the handful of change at my car. I couldn't chase after him because by the time I figured out what happened, our lanes split and he took the exit and I was forced onto I495.

I now have a couple of small chips in the paint on my passenger side door. Truthfully tho, I could care less about the car. I'm just thankful that nothing went into my car because the window was down and my girl was sitting in the passenger seat.

Oh well, sorry for venting.

Glad everyone is ok; sorry to hear about the paint chips. It is amazing how people let minor traffic altercations get the best of them and they react by throwing change, or whatever. Too bad a cop wasn't there to witness it.

BMW envy. For some reason people seem to get more upset with bimmer drivers than any other car drivers on the road. The least bit of perceived bad driving on our part brings out the worst in people than any other car on the road.

Good thing she didn't get hurt! There are some psycho's out there... and they eventually they get taken care of by ...another psycho lol. Sometimes its better the lanes split and you can't get after them, it works out better this way in hindsight.

well a lot of times they have numbers on the highway for reporting aggressive drivers, so at least that would've been a civilized way to handle it. It is a blessing you couldn't follow him/her. While we all talk a big game and don't wanted to be b1tchslapped like that, but nothing good ever comes of that...you never know what that person is capable of and in the end a little hit to your pride is not worth losing or destroying your life. In the moment I know this is no consolation, however. Glad your lady is okay.

People definitely have an attitude with bimmers, particularly if you are on the younger side (I'm in my 30s) driving one. Jealousy is an ugly thing.

sooo glad your daughter is OK. I have small kids so I understand how you would feel.

reminded me of a funny story though-
a buddy of mine was in a similiar situation- he and another driver got crossways. The other driver asks my buddy to pull off the road (never a good idea) but he does. They exchange words and then my buddy grabs his breakfast (bfast sandwich and a box of tater tots) and chunks them in the guys sunroof. Tots everywhere!!! He yells- "how 'bout that!!!" and takes off. Left the guy stunned.

I am pretty sure he considered that you did not "slow" enough to let him come into your lane, even though you did let him in, you just did not slow down enough, cause his VTEC wasn't working this morning

ive driven ford SUVs my entire life until now. I even had a classic Porsche for 7 years. I consider myself, just another commuter on the road, a pretty well balanced law abiding citizen, nothing to prove and seek a stress free comfortable drive. I truly feel, after owning this car for 2500 miles the above statement from 3Coupe is correct.

sometimes, i almost feel 'picked on'. I dont let it bother me one bit and I go about my way, but i have definitely come to find this on the highway and even some local streets. I could do stuff in my truck or my old 944 people wouldnt bat an eye to, yet anything even remotely close to 'trying to get one by' sets people off!

Good thing everyone is safe, as that is the most important thing. Property damage can be fixed.

I had some a-hole in a Corolla merge into my lane on the highway and nearly run me off the road (if the emergency lane had been any narrower I would've been on the grass). I was able to get his tags and call him into to FHP. Never really found out if anything happened to him after that.

I agree with this as well. I do most of my driving in a nondescript white company Ford F150, and drive completely the same in both vehicles. Considering I put 80% of my mileage on the pickup, it amazes me that I will run into dick drivers much more often in the 20% of the time I drive the BMW

I think for whatever reason, people like to make assumptions about your situation compared to theirs based on what people are driving. Nevermind the fact that a used 328 can be had for about $20k, which is hardly "fuck you" money by any standard, but will for personal piece of mind or whatever try and "level the playing field" if that makes any sense. I doubt the person with the 2mil house and the Honda Accord is gonna go around throwing change at luxury cars - it's the Accord driver who feels oppressed or systematically taken advantage of for whatever reason who's gonna retaliate so viciously to the fact that you choose to drive a BMW.
