Can the e9x self lock?
I'm asking this question after having my sunglasses and Y cable stolen out of my car last night. I guess I forgot to lock my doors while carrying a few things in from what I once thought to be a secure parking garage. I realize that this is my fault, but for some reason I thought the vehicle would lock automatically after a period of time. By the way, I do have CA.

If you unlock the car, but do not open the door, it can be set to re-lock the doors. I think it's 30 seconds. But I don't think it self-locks after you open the door and exit the vehicle.

If you have iDrive, it's described in my 2007 manual under "Central Locking system". After navigating to the "Central Locking" menu, check the "Relock door if not opened" option.

Thanks for the response guys. I know I had previous vehicles where the doors would auto lock after 30 seconds once I exited the vehicle. Guess I will be taking a trip to The Sun Glass Hut today.

Best part about comfort access is that if your hands are full and your keys are in your pocket you can butt-lock by leaning on the door handle haha.
But yeah don't think there's a feature like this, sorry for what happened bro

Related question is can it unlock on it's own. I do not drive our 335ix coupe very much in the summer since it is Z4 weather. The other day I looked over at the 335 (in the garage thank god) and saw that the sunroof was open the door were unlocked and the windows were down. I know I never leave the car this way! Could something had triggered it similar to holding down the key?

RickC, That is interesting. I was parked right next to a 2011 e93 last night that I have seen before in the building. Not saying this is the case, but I wonder if other BMW key fobs might work across multiple vehicles??

A neighbor describes something called "tush dialing" - when you are sitting on your cell phone. And as my wife has accidentally set off her (Ford) car alarm when fishing thru her purse, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar can happen with the BMW fob.

That would be a very nice option, the Audi does that I think and I was hopping it would be the same for BMW. There were times that I do forget to lock the doors esp I no longer press any button to unlock the car.
