Spare Wheel/Tire

I'm considering ordering the spare wheel/tire set for my '09 328i sedan. Folks have mentioned that this is fairly narrow (4 - 5 inches) and doesn't take up a lot of room. Have folks that have these found that there is sufficient room to slip a suitcase above the wheel? Is there enough space between the wheel and the trunk lid? I would like to retain a somewhat useful trunk if possible. Thanks.

My 10" deep rolling carryons fit with about 1" to spare over my spare.

yes, a regular carryon will fit fine over the spare wheel.

There's 13" of height clearance above my spare setup. At the farthest point forward, near the seatback, where the cross member goes across there's only 10". Plenty-o-room for most suitcases.

Looks like there would be plenty of room for a good size suitcase to slide in over tire. If you ever have a chance, a photo of the trunk with a suitcase on top of the spare would be great.

This looks really nice and clean. I have this spare and the cargo net which I'd like to use to hold it in place, but I didn't see the cargo tie downs in the back sides of the trunk that you have. Does anyone know if those were done away with on the LCI (I have a '10 335)?

Nice setup Jay - very nicely done. I am planning a similar setup - quick question: Do you feel the spare move around even a bit in cornering? Any squeaks or such? And how did you fasten it so tightly?

Yes, anything but an extra-deep suitcase will fit fine. My wife's expanding rollaboard goes all the way back when the depth isn't expanded, and still fits partway back with the extra 5" riser lifted.

That looks real nice. Which spare kit did you get? Bav Auto or Tischer? Also is that a standard cover/harness thing?
