General Exclaim UHP as a winter tire -- Long island

this coming winter will be the first winter with my 3er and i'm just wondering if i could run General Exclaim UHP's as a winter tire. anybody from NY (long island specifically) knows that we dont get much real snow anyway. so would this be ok?

general considers the exclaim uhp an ultra high performance all season tire - but tire rack begs to differ and considers it a summer only tire.

i had them mounted for one snow storm here on long island - never again. just letting off the brake pedal in the snow and they would spin.

the hankook icebear is a GREAT performance snow tire. i ran them last season, and have had them on other cars in the past as well.

definitely swap em out
I have trouble on these colder wet mornings on my summer only tires, so it would be prudent to swap em out for a winter set
the hankook ipikes on stock rims makes a perfect affordable combo
thats the setup I will be putting on my car in a week or two

I ran those one summer on my 335xi and didn't get the chance to swap them out before the first small snow. They were really bad! No way would I run those all winter. I slid through 2 intersections. Not good for winter at all

i had run flats 3 winters ago the stock ones. I don't drive it in the winter but i had to move it to get something out of the garage. I couldn't even move an inch outside. got stuck. It was a mission to bring it back in.

Cost of winter tires is much less than paying your insurance deductable and increased premiums. Besides, winter tires actually save you money. Quality summer tires are much more expensive to replace. You can extend the life of your tires by a year or two very easily. When I had my 328i the cost of my winter set up paid for itself since I still had a significant amount of tread which meant I didnt need to replace the tires after 36000 miles, and I then sold the winter set up for only a couple hundred less than I bought it for.

With a RWD you should always put 4 winter tires. All season just mean there ok in everything but not great in one selected area. I found a ill deal the second week i bought my car and jumped on a set of 17's sport edition wheels. No scuffs and had a set of blizzak in good condition for dirt cheap. I'd look around for a set of used wheels/snows. G Luck

While meeting minimum tread design standards to be "M+S" branded, the Exclaim UHP is designed to provide high levels of traction, response and control in dry conditions, along with superior hydroplaning resistance in wet conditions. We do not suggest Exclaim UHP tires be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
