Two Questions

Anyone know when the car will be available at the showroom? Also, some early discussions talked about 4 doors design like the M5 or the 4RS, any insight?

In Europe or US?

In Europe, it should be in the showrooms in Summer 2007. In the US, probably around September 2007 or fall 2007 in general.

The 4-door design would be the Sedan-version, there was one of the E36 M3 (mainly because the US market had a demand for it), there was none for the E46 M3 (good) but some sources are saying that BMW is considering offering a Sedan chassis for the new M3 again. I hope not, myself, as I see that as trivializing and taking away from the value of the car. Almost as embarrassing as M5 Touring (station wagon) that will actually come out soon.

Best regards,

Jussi - off to drive for fun for few hours now.

By making more and more different type of M cars, BMW M GmbH is taking away from its exclusivity. Giving the power and name to any paying person that wants it. Soccer moms, fat old rich guys that have no motorsport passion) etc..etc.. The M5 touring is a joke, and so will the m3 touring/sedan if there shall be any. *fingers crossed*

PS. Thanks to the soccer moms and the old fat guys, that make the sales for us, because thats more money to develope better cars for us! (I know I constantly contradict myself, but hey, I never think thoroughly.

The M GmbH has limited production capacity, especially engine production capacity, so I'm sure the Sedan/Touring models will show up much later when the initial demand for the Coupé has been satisfied - if they show up at all. I hope they don't. M5 Touring is almost enough to make me cry. But then again, the new M5 always was a tank. Too bad the M6 is almost 100% as heavy and has the same problems. Here's hoping to that BMW keeps their word and makes the E92 M3 the premium M model of the M models.

Best regards,

Jussi

There will be an M3 sedan. I know people that have driven the prototypes.
There IS an M5 Touring. Whether we get it in the USA is yet to be seen.

Old fat guys huh ?

Personally, I'm not old, nor fat.

Come out to the track and try to keep up !

I don't track my cars as much these days, as I KART.
It's a much bigger thrill and there's not traction control or ABS nannies to make people think they're a better driver.

Personally, I'd LOVE an M5 Touring.
Some of us do have families.
Some of us CAN afford a Pcar, but in LA, Pcars are like Ford Explorers.
All the old, fat guys, trying to get laid buy em.
Just keep OD'ing on Viagra and leave the Pcar to someone else.

Having an M3 sedan and/or M3/M5 Touring is no 'slight' to the M name or prestige.

I'd bet only 5% of M cars actually see track time or actually have 'Skilled' or Qualified dirvers behind the wheel.

Any schmuck can pull on a paddle, but can you properly heel/toe shift doing 100mph into the Carrousel ?

You want exclusivity ?
Why buy an M ?
Buy an RS4, as there is a 1:50, if not higher, ratio of those cars to M cars.

M cars and AMG's are a dime a dozen.
Anyone buying them thinking they are exclusive is on drugs.
The numbers speak for themselves.

Pagani Zonda, McLaren SLR, Bugatti Veyron...... they are exclusive.
M's, AMGs, Pcars...... just another production car, that just happens to be one step up from normal.

Replicat, your in So Cal....... Wanna meet this old, fat guy out at Willow Springs or CA speedway when I get my M5 Touring ???????

Haha, I don't get it? Are you attacking me, or is this a friendly post . I never mention anything about you, hehe I only said that the majority of those cars are for the M buyers who have no passion for motorsports. The other which may be like you, are the ones who love BMW but are now family men.

And I can assure you that WAY more that 5 percent of M buyers attend the track, its seen weekly.

As for the exclusivity of those cars, you are definitely right, but I live and breathe BMW and would never consider purchasing one of them, ever.

We'll when you get your M5 touring I will be glad to run with you at the track. And I can assure you that I can heel toe down shift from 100+mph. :rocks:

be well and drive safe,

-Pete.

Agreed. M cars are fantastic but the truth of the matter is a lot of people buy them because they not only want a BMW, but the most expensive one on the chart. They like the little SLK roadster, but are rich enough and want to buy the most expensive one they can. It is sad for people like us who appreciate the M cars for more than just a new expensive BMW when we see others driving them.

There is a girl (17 years old) that leaves nearby me and she drives a black 2006 M5. I almost choke everytime I see her and her friends driving around but that still doesn't mean I'd like to own one some day. on my campus there are many many many more e46 m3s than there are e46 330s. People that can afford to (and want to) buy their kids a BMW generally have enough to buy an M-series. Hell, if my parents wanted to buy me a car, 40k vs 55k would make very very little difference to them - almost negligible.

I don't think poorly of BMW's decision to make a sedan m3 or a wagon m5. I think it is great that they offer the spirit in more practical cars (as oxymoronish as that may sound).

And don't forget, for pure racing and exclusivity BMW does offer cars like the m3 CSL and GTR.

I guess you got me there, the cars that are more exclusive (CSL, GTR) are still available. But you know what, the US will never get them.

I guess its time for a DIY CSL.:rocks: :rocks: (Do it yourself* for those who don't know) Take out some of the BS Non-needed weight at the track.

P,
Noooooo bud. Not an attack on you, in any way man.
Things just come accross funny on the net.

I never meant to imply that you were talking to me directly, either......

I just think some folks thoughts on sedans and sport wagons are just ludicrous.

Personally, if I could have just a coupe, it's a Porsche Turbo. But, some need more space.

I'm sorry, but there is no way even 10% of M cars hit the track. Over 8K M3s were sold in 2005, in the USA. Only 3,500 Audi S4's were sold that same year.
I've been to alot of track events over the years.
STI's, Evo', GTI, S4's, Pcars always out number M's.
I can count on one hand how many M5's have seen track days I've been to.
If there's say, 30 cars at the event, 2-3 would be M cars.
Willow, CA speedway, Laguna Seca, etc........

I love/live/breathe BMW as well.
I would have no problem buying an M5Touring.
When the family was in it, it'd be the family car.
When I was alone, I'd embarrass the neighborhood punk in his STI/EVO or the yuppie larva in his Carrera he can't shift.......... a fine dual purpose automobile.

Sedans and Tourings don't tarnish the M name in anyway.

They let car loving, F1 adoring, Karting junkies like me, have the best of both worlds.

Sure, 99% of M5 Tourings won't see track time or carve any canyons, but it would let guys/gals like me, have it's cake and eat it to.

We should try to put a so cal Kart day together.
A Producer/Director buddy is part owner of a new, bitchin, indoor Kart facility in Carona......

Lets Drive !!!!!!

Pure racing a BMW ?
BMW driving experience in Bahrain, now offers track school in the Formula BMW open wheel cars !!!!!!!!! That's that shiz...... closest to an F1 car we'll get.........

Aside from my 125TAG Kart tearing up Willow or Moran......

KUJO IVE BEEN THERE!!!! Pole Position is what its called, in Corona with the electric karts! Those things are so surprisingly fast, I had a blast there. I started 8th and finished 3rd. But on the rankings i was 7th, because they rank by lap times and I was fighting through traffic to get to first. Oh well.

But, I get what your saying, and you have changed my mind about the M5 touring and cars like it...because I suppose that when the time comes to me, I would love for there to be a car like that.

Good solid post.

Yup. That's the place.
A buddy of mine, a Producer/Director on my tv series is part owner of that place.
Jeremy McGrath and a few other moto guys are all the owners.

I'll see about putting something together.

What's up Kujo?

This is Spencer from L.A., one of Brendans buddies. I met you at the VCR GTG a while ago and weNt through your buddy Drew to get my S4. Funny to see you here. As much as an Audi/VW-phile we are looks like we both are counting the days for the E92 M3.

Spence,
I came over the the dark side ages ago.
Too many issues with Audi and just wanted the RWD 50/50 split handling again.

Not sure if I'll wait the 1.5 years until the M3 sedan makes it here.
If they do a 335i Touring or M5 Touring, I may go that route.

Otherwise, I'll wait patiently and get the e90 M3.

I hear ya. I tend to agree with these guys that the M3 is best suited to be a coupe. The M5 touring is interesting, I personally don't see it selling over here all that well.

Saw the new S6 at Keyes Audi today. WOW is that an amazing looking car. Nicest interior on any car I have EVER seen.

yeah, Audi's interiors have always been superior to BMW and MBZ.
But, until the B8's come out, just less of a 'drivers' car.

I'm torn about what to do.
We just put a bid in on a huge house today, so we'll see what I end up doing, based on the new, bigger mortgage....
