brake cooling / ducting

Has anyone been using a brake cooling kit on Z4M? Or fabricated one with ducts, hose and backing plates?

Stock brakes are overheating with PFC-01 pads and Motul 600 fluid. A friend used brake ducts on his E46 M3 to good results, and I was looking to try the same before a big brake kit.

Yes, I have a custom designed set of duct work on mine with a BBK already installed. It really is a great improvement.

If you can't make one, try enlarging the two inlets on the front bumper (on top of the fangs). That should let more air into the wheel well.

The ducts are easy to open, but lets be honest... The air ducts point at the tread of the tire. It is not doing much.

I would be really interested to see some pictures to get some ideas for custom ducting. I have just purchased some parts and will be posting my ideas soon.

I run PF-01 pads and Ate TYP200 brake fluid and have never experienced any brake overheating or fade. Do a cool-down prior to bringing the car back to the paddock and things are OK. Your Florida heat and humidity may be an extenuating factor.

+1 WHS but I'm in 100+ degree with Texas heat and haven't had a problem.

If you had DSC on, then it's not the stock brake setup that was your problem with the brakes over heating.

You may find this helpful in addition to the cool down lap, I always pop the hood entering the pits and open it fully immediately after stopping. Engine bay heat tends to heat sink the master cylinder and abs box.

I couldnt find any for the Z4 M on their website. There are a few for E46 M3's and for other models but i'm guessing they wouldnt fit.

A difference of 10C-20C in ambient temprature will not change much. Heat transfer to the environment is proportional to t_rotor-t_ambient. t_rotor will be >> t_ambient, so driving when it's 10C or 30C isn't going to make a major difference when it comes to brake cooling/overheat, etc...
